I have a big question on the timing belt. I looked into my engine today after I took her for a spin cause she was running HORRIBLY and I saw a belt that was half cerated off in the front of the engine so I assumed that that wasnt good and that might be the problem. But my question is when you look into the engine in the front there is a belt you can clearly see. Is that the timing belt? I just wanna make sure before I go buyin parts I dont need.

You should have 3 belts on the front of the engine, 2 smaller and one wider belt, the timing/cam drive belt is under the black plastic cover behind the radiator hose. The drive belts are not going to make it run horrable, unless its not turning your water pump, then after a few minutes it won't run at all :grinno: Check the codes obviously, pull the plugs out of the wells too and see if there swimming in oil. What is running horribly by the way? Missing, sputtering, knocking, your really going to have to be alittle more specific.

Its more of a sputtering noise. And the belt thats on top thats right next to the hose is the one thats like half cerrated off. And I was lookin around more and theyre seemed to be more oil on the ground and quite a bit more in the engine. Do you know what its gonna take to fix and about how much it would cost at a shop. Thx

It's hard to tell how much it's going to cost to fix when I can't diagnose the problem yet, pull the codes and see what they say. A new belt will cost next to nothing though.

well bad news. me and my friend put the belt on today but now theres a sound comin from the block so were thinkin that theres a problem with a piston or rod its a loud whacking sound. Idk if you have any idea how much a new piston job runs but now thats the new issue.

Not piston job... rod knock. If it's coming from where you say it is then just tear it down now, order a full rebuild kit from toyota or carmadillo, including all bearings and a MHG and ARP studs. Do it right the first time and this won't happen again. Also find a reputable machine shop that you trust to help you out if you need it, and to do the head work if you decide to go with a MHG.
