I'm heading to the model shop today or tomorrow and there are a few things I'd like to know.
1) Is primer really necessary on a red/black model? What about the interior with the white roll cage. I'm planning on spraying, but is primer necessary?
2) What grit of sandpaper do I need? 800, 1000, 1200?

1. Yes! Any more questions about needing primer and I will be forced to bang heads!
You could of course make a crap model, in which case you won't need primer!:D

Thanks for the swift response, Guid. I built my ITR without primer, but I want my Lancer to be so excellent that it rivals one of your models (not that that will happen any time soon). That's why I ask.

EVERYTHING on my models gets primered, as each part is filed with needle files to get rid of the mold lines, and primering is the last step of that.

So it's:
1) Rinse
2) Sand (mold lines, abnormalities, etc)
3) Prime
4) Spray
5) Repeat as tragedy dictates
That right?
How many coats of primer?

Yep!
1-2 coats on parts
3 coats on body. Check for irregularities after 1st coat!

Can parts grow so thick so they won't fit to mounting holes?
That's why I never prime small parts

I find if someone builds a kit I have done I scrutinise it to see how they dealt with the problems I over came on it!
