a guy told me unless you are a very expirienced manual transmission driver, you will never be able accelerate as fast as an auto supra. Both cars being twin turbo, CAN THIS BE TRUE?!

My lido bro says: "TRUE, because....(ricer comments)...
I SAY: "how good is this driver? IF a experienced driver luanched a manual Supra TT against a Auto Supra TT, i would say the the Manual would win, u can control the power on the manual and get more power out of the launch. For auto u just luanch, not getting the "max" luanch or initial torque u want from the auto. i think i said those things correctly...well..i say manual would win

They guy is wrong. Automatics will give you more consistancy in 1/4mile time. But they will not accelerate faster. Compair a cars times.
Ie. Supra 6speed manual 0-60 and 1/4
and a Supra Auto 0-60 and 1/4.
I think you will find that the manual is faster. Mod for mod the manual will be faster. This guy you talked to probably dosent know how to shift so he bashes the manual.
O well, let him think that and then beat him in a manual.

he is wrong man if you redline thru every gear u will win no matter how slow you shift (if the cars are exactly the same wityh same mods and hp)

The so called theory is true. Open up a automatic Supra Transmission and tell me its similar to other auto transmissions. Silver GTR34 is completely right. Except you dont have to be so much an experienced driver but you have to know the car that your driving.

I might be wrong, but I think it could be possible. The automatic can stay in boost during shifts, so when it shifts you are in boost still. Were as a manual would have to let off and lose boost the build it back up again. But I am just speculating. :2cents:

Try I-4 in Orlando at 4:30 pm and you'll beg for automatic regardless of performance loss

the auto wont accelerate as fast but it is more consistant and you cant mess up in an auto. like pugbug said the auto holds boost during shifts

Yeah but, it is a lot harder to control a manual if you haven't launched one before. Auto you can launch at about 2500 or 3000 (I think), so you are already spooled off the line. but isn't the gearing on the auto more spread out when compared to the manual? If i'm right about that then I would say the manual is gonna win if not then the auto.
