99 suburban fuel pump blowing fuses

I have a 99 suburban that blew the 20 amp fuel pump fuse. I replaced it and it ran okay but I changed the fuel pump for safety. It ran for a few days and blew again. I fixed a loose chasis ground and changed the fuel pump relay and it ran okay for a few days then blew again. Suggestions???????????

Did you ever get any answers regarding your problem. We are having the same problem with ours. Have replaced the fuses now we are trying to trace down wires.

The ONLY thing that blows fuses is a direct short to ground on the power side. So, you need to look for a chaffed power wire from the fuse to the load (relay or pump).

The wire harness that plugs into the fuel pump assy (to pump and gage) inside the tank is corroded and shorting out. four wires two to pump Gary one on my unit was trashed. Clean it up with small file and plug it back in I had no luck in finding a replacement but mine works fine 5000 miles in a month and going strong. PS I hate gas prices (LOL)

Usually on that model, the gray 12v feed to the pump (inside the tank)will melt the insulation and the warm wire will rub the ground side until the insulation is gone and cause a direct short to ground and blow the fuse
