I was just driving back from getting my girlfriend from work and my radio shut off, then my clock on my dash shut off, then my gauge light shut off...and as I was pulling in my driveway...the car just died, shut off, kaput! WTF! It's not throwing any codes, the car won't turn over, it just clicks when I turn the key...it's acting like I have a dead battery...but how did it start the car this morning @-40C and then start the car when I went to get the girlfriend 10minutes before it died!?!?!

HELP!!!!

That was my first thought...so what can I do? Charge the battery manually and then drive it somewhere and change the altenator? How do I know that that is it for sure??

to be honest i dunno, i've had this happen to me before, but it was just the alternator belt snapped off, so check that first, if you boost it its just gunna die out again when your driving it. you can go buy a new alternator or have your rebuilt. my buddy's alternator on his crx blew and he had it rebuilt for 35 bucks and it works great now.

I've got a buddy bringing my altenator off my old B2 over (it's at his house)...but is that compatible on my B1?

I would guess its an alternator or belt problem. Test & charge the battery if needed. You could remove your alternator & have it tested for free @ most parts stores, that way you will know for sure. There is some testing you could do yourself, but to do it properly you need expensive equip.

yeah it should work, from what i have read all 88-91 altenators are the same and will work

An easy way to see if your alternator is out is to charge the battery, start the car, and while the car is running, disconnect the negative battery cable. If the alternator is good, the car will stay running, if its bad, it will die immediately.

Maybe your brake petal wasnt up all the way, our some wires are crossed

But is this possible that the light could stay on with the car "off"?? Shouldn't it go out when the car goes off? That's just bizarre!
I think my car is possessed :screwy::evillol:

Oh crap...I think I realized we have a miscommunication here...I don't mean the brake lights on the exterior of the car....I mean the brake "warning" light on my dash was on with the car off and me not in it and the park brake not on???

Was it very cold? There is a possiblitly your ignition switch was sticking a little . . .that does sound odd.

Well yah...if you call -30C (-22F) to -40C (-40F) cold ? ;)

But it's weird that the light would stay on with the car off isn't it? And then go off after I turn the car on?? Hey the car runs, that's all I care...but that freaks me out.

Yep...was inside for about a half an hour...walked up to my car...looked in the window...there was the brake warning light on, door locked, car off, parking brake not on...got in turned car on, light goes off. Weird...I've had it come on a couple of times other than that, while driving but as soon as I shut the car off it goes out...but this one was truly weird.

Possessed I tell you...(that would make sense):evillol:
