going w/ a t5 would be a bad choice. a t5 isn't strong enough to take the tourque output of a 350 cid or higher. that's why in the 3rd-gens the 350tpi only came as an auto. but if you want to swap to a manual trans w/ an lt1, go for the t56 6-speed. you can find it on another 4th gen. i recommend getting it off of a wrecked one. as for what to do, the t-56 is the same length as the 4-speed auto i believe, so the only things i see having to do will be cutting a whole for the shifter to come through the floorboard, changing the center console to accomondate a stick, and then some computer work (not sure what has to be done, i have know idea when it comes to computers in cars)

yeah, the T5 is a downgrade, you want the T56 if possible. not sure about the swap, but should be pretty easy seeing as they were stock in that car.

I don't think that the T5 is a bad choice personaly, it my be a down grade from a T56, but still not a bad tranny. My monster 305 was bolted to a T5, and now the 383. It's a strong tranny and will not give you a problem so long as your clutch can handle the torque. You'll have to get a stage 2 or 3 clutch. My 305 had better than 400hp and my 383 has better than 500 and I've had no problems what so ever. The T56 just has an extra overdrive gear, from what I understand is for 80mph and over. But in any event there both good trannys.

the t5 came with a 6, not an 8, thats why i was asking. also, if its from an 85 is there any reason it wont fit a 93?

not sure exactly, but i think the mounts would be different, and possibly the length of the tranny, creating a problem with mounting it to your driveshaft. if you are adament about putting it in, the worst case i can think of, will be a custom mounting bracket, and a custom driveshaft. custom routing of the shifter and linkage, other than that, i cant think of any reason why not. if 92RS says its strong enough, thats good enough for me.

the tranny will/should bolt right up to the LT1. As far as other things like mounts and driveshaft/torque arm I'm sure that hawks third gen has something for you but go to thirdgen.org and look up the links they have for a possible aplication...waitaminute...if I recal corectly the T56 and T5 are the same length, so find a donar car with the parts you need.

ok, i just wanted to know cuz my friend got a new tranny for his camaro, and i wanted to know if his old one would fit mine, i know t56 is obviously better, but a 5-speed is still better than auto. are the mounts, driveshaft, and torque arm expensive?

thanks,
Alec
