ugh... this JDM trend is soooo old.... enough already. Find something new to do people! ;-)

But if you need to find parts, www.tpimotorsports.com and www.kingmotorsports.com or check ebay for good stuff.

If you go JDM, why not just import a JDM car? I don't get the point of trying to make a USDM car JDM because most people never complete it & a huge waste of $$$, IMO. If it aint RH drive, what's the point? With all the $$$ spent, you could have yourself a bad ass RWD Sol. The best thing about that, it's hardly seen.

Don't be like everyone else & have what they have, do something different for once!

Because i enjoy working on the car itself i dont do it to impress anyone i do it for me.....anyone can import a car but when you take and do it yourself from the ground you respect the car more and you can sit back and say i did that and enjoy the work youve done....and Yea the JDM thing is gettin but nice clean cars will never be old.

Hey I've been thinking of the same thing. I agree totally, I've been hounded by a bunch of people saying it's a waste of money. But if you think of it you can pick up a crappy used del sol for 2500 and get a whole front clip (complete with engine, harnesses, and all the rhd stuff) for like 2-2500. That's a 5 thousdand dollar rhd del sol (i'm only interested in rhd, I could really care less about the whole jdm conversion). If you figure that a del sol imported is lik 8 grand and then I don't think you can get them registered because they have to be crash tested and everything like that. You would save yourself loads of money.
I'd much rather do it myself and have the fun of doing it than importing one.
It's like all the people who have (or think they have) a fast honda. You prolly dropped some major ching into your ride. Why not buy a car with some balls straight out.
Don't feel like you have to answer to anyone else man.
Where do you live? Email me and we can exchange some ideas: Morpheus_942@yahoo.com.

hmmmm... the "fun" of doing it yourself? I hope you know what you're getting into.. and oh yeah... GOOD LUCK FINDING A CLIP FOR 2500. JDM sol clips are rare to start off with, but then you add to that factor the fact that you're not the only one who wants one, and that the people who do want it usually have pretty damn deep pockets via sponsors and what not... to actually get a JDM clip shipped to your door is probably gonna be closer to $5000 when all's said and done, then add another $2000 worth of work alone... it's like the transtop thing.. it's a waste of time and money and chances are that something's gonna go wrong. Trust me.. it's cheaper to just import a JDM sol and get it registered. Richard at TPI motorsports, one of the links I have, will go to any extent he has to to get whatever car you want (Japanese exotics included.. He had a skyline gt-r34 for sale... mmmmmm), and he'll give you a decent price, awesome shipping rates with a good shipping company. And you can get a JDM car registered. The main thing you have to do is replace the glass to make it safety glass. It has to meet standards for the year it was made, so most of today's stuff doesn't apply.

You're also wrong about your used car quote. If you're going to go to all that trouble, then you want a sol without an engine in it.. aka a shell.. and those can be found for about $1000-$1500. But even with that, it's less hassle and less money to just import one. And like I said, there is nothing fun about the clip conversion.

And why not buy a car with balls straight out? Because I can afford my $200/mo honda payment... Can't afford the $500/mo mercedes payment. ;)

Well, I won't get into my opinions of a JDM conversion, but it would cost more to do it yourself than it would to just buy the car from Japan. Besides, how adept are you at shifting with your left hand?

I don't think it's really worth it. And it's the trend everyone is doing right now, so it's been overdone. But if it makes you happy, go right ahead.

ok, did you notice you can get a shell for 1000-1500 and a front clip for about 5000, add them up its 6000-6500 still cheaper then importing one for 8000. (these are numbers from this thread) Also, if he is saying he wants to do it because he has pride in building his own stuff. I would pride my self on a convered to JDM vehicle over the pride of calling somoene to ship something to me.
We are gear heads, if you don't want to do your own work. Then don't, but don't tell us that we are stupid for wanted to do something fun.
Also, emily you say its easier to just get one shipped. isn't it also easier to steal one? i don't wanna be an ass but people always tell me i'm stupid for doing it myself, even though it saves money and makes me happy. Which are why people do stuff, to make them happy. If not we would have every house looking exactly alike, cars would be all the same and there would be nothing different about anything because if everyone worked together it would be CHEAPER and EASIER. Sorry, you kinda hit a nerve.

Actually, it's damn near impossible to steal one. There's only about 5 that are in the US. good luck.

$6500 will get you two chunks of metal sitting in your garage. That's not counting how much shipping on a JDM clip would be, which would be insane cause they're a little tiny bit HEAVY, and that's also not counting the other parts you need. So you get the RHD clip. So you successfully manage to do the conversion. Then what? You wanna go full JDM you need a transtop, so you chop off your USDM back end and put on a transtop. So now you have two different JDM cars chopped together and frankensteined to all hell. And? Save the time and money, get a JDM sol imported, then take all the time and money you saved and invest in some genuine mugen/spoon parts, and make the thing fast. You'll get more out of it that way, because you have a genuine JDM sol. I have been playing this game for about 3.5 years now, and I have seen ONE clip for sale, and it was a RHD EDM clip. I have never seen a JDM clip for sale. Why? Sols are hard enough to find. JDM sols available to the US consumer are diamonds. JDM Parts are somewhat readily available, like headlights, maplights, visors, etc. But JDM clips are 99.99999999999999999999999999% non-existent.

Getting back on topic, emstrauma, the JDM trend is just that, a trend. So instead of doing a full RHD conversion, I would get some JDM parts, make your car clean and smooth, and then leave it at that. In a year and a half JDM parts are gonna be a dime a dozen, and the people who have JDM stuff are gonna be on the same rank as the people who have altezza lights and LED everything now... ricers. Something new will come up, and people will drop the current JDM fad like a bad habit. Concentrate on power. The custom car trends change all the time, but fast cars never go out of style.

And raley.. keep spouting off little rants like that and pulling threads off topic. I may hit nerves, but I can hit a 14 day ban button just as easily to let you cool off.

haha. Thats a great way to use your power. if someone disagrees with you, you ban them (great admin skills)

Anyways, there will always be a place for it. People said that muscle cars would just be a trend but they are still kickin. You are right when you said save the time and just put on some engine shit, but if its what makes him happy... let him do it!

Locked, and consider yourself warned, Raley. I'm not asking you to agree with me. I am asking you to read what I say and comprehend it... and what I said was to stop pulling threads off topic. Ivan posted asking what peoples' opinions are. I gave mine, you gave yours. Fair enough. Drop it at that. I'm not asking you to think like I do. I'm asking you to keep threads on topic so that thread starters can get answers.

So both of you can grow up.
