More horsepower!

I was wondering what all I can do to my D16Z6 for more horsepower....
I just ordered intake, header, and catback exhaust from a local shop...After I do all that, I'm planning to install a new intake manifold...
All this will give me at least 25 extra hp right?
What else can I do for more horsepower besides a swap or FI?
I plan to swap in a B16/18 later on and maybe go turbo...but thats in a couple years...

you could go with some lightweight pulleys. replace them all except for the pulley for the alternator. I also think that one of the best mods for a VTEC motor is to get it a more aggresive cam. You don't want to get one that is too aggressive cause you'll need to do some major head work then. But I think Skunk2 manufactures a streetable cam that requires little head work if any if i'm thinking right.

You'll be lucky to gain 20HP max at the wheels with I/H/E/IM under perfect conditions. If it were my car, I'd start by doing head work.
IMO, if your planning on a swap, stop throwing money @ your current engine & start saving for the new engine. Invest money into suspension since it's one mod that actually does something for the money.

You wont be getting 15 WHP from those mods on a d-series no way in hell...from your mods youll probably get 8-10 WHP around 13-15 horspower at the crank, what they announce. So if you have 125 hp now youll be around 133.

I'm planning on a swap that's why I was wondering if there was anything else I could do to increase hp without actually messing with the block itself...
The I/H/E/IM that I put on my D16 would fit a B16 wouldnt it?
Thanks anyway...

So even though the people selling them say they will increase x amount of hp...it wont?
Like the IM i was looking at said 10-15 hp gain...and the others were like 5-7....

So do you all reccomend swapping in a B16...or just getting some head work?
According to that MMR site...the headwork will help more than a swap....for less money.
What should I do?

yah, nothing that fits on a D-series motor will fit on a B-series motor that I know of. If you were looking to swap parts, I suggest you send the parts you bought already back and start saving.

Some intakes might fit a B series manifold. No header from a D series will fit a B series. Exhaust--muffler and piping no problem, as they'll fit. Internals--no go for cams. B and D series cams are different.

Well, if you are planning to fully build the d and not swap, then the head package makes sense. If you still intend to swap later, then save your money and put it towrds the swap.

oh yah, keep your exhaust, it's not dependent on what motor you have, just what chassis your car is.

You see, it's sad when you 'trick your ride out' and you're pushin' 125hp at the wheels..ya' know? It should be some sort of crime...but anyway I agree with the guy who said SAVE YOUR MONEY and quit throwing it into a D series engine! I mean come on now you're going to be competing with Kias and Suzukis on the track with that little bit of HP.

I suggested to him that is he wants a swap, save the money and don't spend it on the D. However, you can get power out of a D. Granted, most people can't extract as much power from a SOHC D-series as a DOHC B-series. But if he doesn't want to swap, a D can be built up. That's why I suggested he decide the route he wants to take BEFORE he spends money. For example, if he wants to sleeve and build a D-series, he can build the motor to handle the boost of for 250hp if he wants. Granted, it will cost some $$, but that;s good power. Espeically in a lightweight car. Now the ceiling he can reach for max power may be more for him in general with the B-series, since it is a better platform (more power) to start out with. The point is, you CAN build a D-series up. It's the same principle as building a b-series or any other motor up. It just takes money.

Yeah, the way I said it was kind of looking down on the D-series..but it's true you can get power out of them..but I had in mind that he wanted the swap so it's kind of dumb to put money into what you got if you're plaining on ditching that engine anyway.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with an S2000. It's a nice car. The new one may have a lower redline, but it puts out better torque. Most will trade that lower redline for the extra torque. After all, it's not like with an 8400rpm redline, it didn't have room to give.

Hey, don't worry. I haven't driven an S2000 either. Some people go out and test drive cars they like just to see how they drive. I don't do that. I don't test drive a car unless I can actually buy it, lol. As far as driving a friends? None have one. If any did, I am sure I would have driven one at least once, lol.

Dude Your a Freakin' dork. I live in Nor Cal, theres a shop called D2Motorsports one of the largest Spoon motor dealers in california. He ofered to sponser my CRX for 6200 which includes long block spoon motor, type R tranny and most likely a spread in a import magazine. So why would you spend so much money on such a expensive head. when you can a new motor ( right out of the crate) for $5200. Plus Intake, Headers, exhaust and intake manifold would add more HP then 20 Stupid Nub.

Alright now, watch what you call people in here. You will get no respect for me with that attitude. Jackasssi is FAR from a nub, and far from being stupid. He is one of our more knowledgable AF members. You have 5 posts to your name, techinacally a "newbie" at the site (I try to aviod the term when I can). Jackasssi has 3,787 posts as of my current post here. He is FAR from a newbie. If you think a crate motor "straight out of the box" costs $5200 normally you are dead wrong. A Spoon motor or JUN crate motor from Japan cost a hell of a lot more than that, they can retail upwards of $10,000 from some retailers. The USDM Mr. Gasket crate motor retails for around $10,000. The head costs a lot less, and may have fit his needs better than such an expensive motor. Not everyone wants the same thing. Furthermore, all these "crate motors" I listed are high compression, meaning they are designed to be Naturally Aspirated motors. Buying those if turbocharging is your route is not ideal, as you would be having to tear apart the very expensive internal work you just paid dearly to buy. The internals of those motors are for NA motors, the motors are built to be NA. If turbocharging is your route, you are better off with "expensive head work," as well as "expensive work" to build up the rest of the motor. Buying one of these crate motors, then preping it for boost is a waste of money, and will cost a hell of a lot more than preping your current motor for boost and spending money to build the head. If you think that head costs a lot, go out and spend your money to buy a Spoon motor and prep it for boost. You'll spend a hell of a lot more.

I would like to know why that shop would sponsor you. You haven't done barely anything to your vehicles. What grounds do they have for sponsoring you? Intake, header (not headers, you have an inline motor), exhaust and IM will not net you much more, if it even does, than 20 hp in the real world. It might in your manufacturers' dream world

I'm not even gonna bother . . . . . . . . . :loser: If you think those heads are expensive you have absolutely no idea, and it's not just a head - head(worked), cam(s), & throttle body.
Where are you gonna put the headers? There is a SINGLE cylinder head on a Honda 4-banger.
Just keep on giving me reasons to stop posting cause I am getting sick of morons like you!

As we all are. I also get sick of all the people coming on here giving advice, when they can't even figure out it's a header...just one...not "headers," on a Honda. As you said, it's a 4-banger, it has one exhaust manifold, not two. Headers are plural, meaning 2 or more. Honda's have one. I mean, it's an easy concept to grasp, I am suprised how many of the newer people botch it up. Maybe if people decided to flame less, instead reading up and learning more, we wouldn't run into ignorance like this so often.

Just watch out...not all motors are removed the same why, some have sensors missing, etc. Not all places are created eqaul. I have seen places with a "good deal" on a swap install the swap with the wrong ECU (i.e, B18C1 motor and tranny, onld sohc d16z6 ecu). You get what you pay for a lot of the time, remember that. Qaulity doesn't come cheap.

A CAI gives a 1% increase in HP for every 11.1 degrees you lower the intake temperature. If the underhood temp 110 and the outside temp is 65, thats a difference of 45 degrees. That eqauls a 4% increase in HP, since cold air is more dense. This would eqaul out to 5hp on a 127hp engine under the circumstances in the example above.
