relocating amp

I was thinking of relocating my amp in my car. I want to move it below the rear seats, so you would literally be sitting on the amp, although I would build a box around the amp with a vent, and fan for the hot days.. but is there really enough space under the seats for that? or would I be better off just wiring the amp up on a rack bolted to the underside of the top of the trunk (like a tray |_amp_| ). which would be better? It's a Coustic 450 watt amp, and it looks nice so if I do do an under seat on, I want to be able to lift the seats and have a lexan/plexiglass top with some lights on it for when I'm showing it off. and possibly make the box a bit bigger than required in case I get a newer/bigger amp. but is it possible to hide the amp under the rear seats in my accord?

Yup, i have seen it before. But i do not know wha textend they had to go through to make it work properly. But i have seen it done on an accord, bebeave it was a 99 2 door V6 if that makes any difference.

I wouldn't do it. Space under there is minimal at best and wouldn't have enough clearance for pretty much most amps. Also keep in mind with the heat the amp generates, probably not good having it there since the fuel pump system of you car is located under the rear seats. Heat and fuel don't go well together.

I wouldnt worry too much about the fuel and heat. A Coustic amp doesnt put out enought heat to cause much problems but hey, why chance it.

If you put your amp under the rear seats it will overheat pritty fast. Even if you create a box for it, you wouldnt be able to easily bring down the tempeture of your amp. For air cooling to work you need a fan pushing cool air into the area and a fan taking warm air out. On top of it, these fans would have to be the right strength and size. All this means that your amp box would probably be too big (high to be specific) to satisfy its confine. You would have to either hollow out the seats or cut into the chasse (bad idea) or both, just to get the right clearance. And... even if you do all this your amp still might not work at its best. (amps run better when they are cooler).

My suggestion would be to put it under the top of your trunk door. If you wire it nicely along the sides and down the hinges you could have a nice look too. If you have a hatchback you can put it under the roof (right on top of the heads of rear passengers) and wire it down the sides to the back (very nice). If you choose to go with these methods make sure you use some sort of meterial between the amp and roof that will take some of the vibration/shock (it will help the life of your amp).

Can't cut into the body/chassis directly under the seats, that's where the gas tank is at of which the fuel pump sits almost inside of.

killah_xft, what about mounting your amp UNDERneith the floor board in the trunk, where your spare tire is located at. There should be enough room between the spare and the very back side of the space down there closest to where the bumper is at. It's cool in reguards to tempature issues, not visible to anyone, saves space from other places you'd otherwise mount it, and out of the way. That's where I have my amp JBL 4-channel amp mounted at, and I even still HAVE my spare down under there too! :cool: Look into that and do some measuring around under there to be sure your amp will fit. It's a guaranteed good spot. I think so at least. :2cents:

I'll take a look at that sometime, but right now it's to friggin cold out... Just thinking of Ideas to work on during the spring.. want to get my sound system squared away how I want it before I get much into the engine mods and everything this summer.

On the accord the trunk floor board sits right up against the chasse and the only open space is where the spare goes. On my old civic I agtualy put a sub in there. It is a great place to put your amp but bye bye spare. (I replaced my spare with a air pump for emergencies) -- cant have it all.

Odd, I have BOTH my "17 x "12½ size amp, and my spare still there under the floorboard in the trunk. Only alteration I had to make was relocate my jack to under the passenger seat. I'll have to post up a pic to prove this I suppose.

still colder than fuck outside... just plans for the spring/summer.

I had to tell you what a great job you did on your interior. Its not too little or too much.. really really sweet man.

I believe some models have some extra space next to the spare. That would explain it.
