The heater in my Mercury Villager is acting up. The temperature of the air goes up and down. I have checked the fluid levels, and changed the thermostat, with no luck. I have noticed that when then temp goes down, if I stomp the throttle the temp will come back up for a few minutes??? Anybody have any ideas?

i had similiar problem with my 93 villager. The water pump was worn out and it wasn't pumping enough water through the heater core. Changed out water pump to solve the problem. Do you notice the engine getting hot when the heater is not working?

had the same problem with my 94 for the past two weeks. i checked to make sure it was getting vac. to open the valve to let water go into the heater core.and it did. i got lucky and took the lines off the heater core and flushed it out with a water hose and it works great now

How do you flush the lines of the heater core?

dont unhook lines from core undo them the other end.
its simple. unhook the 2 hoses , on my 95 they are on top drivers side of motor. remember to flush through the outlet hose not the inlet. (it dont really matter, its just if you reverse flush youll be able to remove more gunk). once you seem to have a good steady stream comming out you should be able to hook it all back up. dont be worried if only water and coolant come out, because the villager is known to get a airlock in the core(alot). ive had to flush mine out every winter because of airlocks.
i hope this helps good luck.

Look on left side near to top –under stuff on my site - to subtopics – click on it and scroll down to coolant refill – tells of a couple more tricks – with radiator cap and also a bleader valve that needs to be open to let air out of the system.
