96 jetta power windows!!!

My 96 Jetta has a power window that doesnt work. It is a front driver's side window. It was broken for a long time and i have been trying to figure out what to fix...motor or regulator??? Does any1 have any suggestions? thanx!!!

:smile: Its very common for the vw window regulator to break. I've replaced 2 of them in my 97 jetta, a molded in plastic part breaks and the only way to fix it is replacing the regulator. A mechanic did my 1st one for $350, I did the 2nd for $100. No upgraded parts are available for the older cars, only 2000 and newer so it's likely to happen again.

I'm having a similar problem with my front passenger window, except it does work off & on. Could it be the same part causing it, or something different? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.
Oh, and it seems to work more often in cooler weather, although it may just be coincidence.
