Buckin' Bronco(pics here)

Ive been waiting to do something like this for a while.
The project is called Buckin' Bronco the main idea is to take a 1980 bronco and make it an awesome off roader.
Here are some of the definite things that are in store for the truck:
1.mustang motor
2.Off road suspension
3.Side steps
4.Snow plow
5.Racing seats
6.Custom roll bar
+other stuff feel free to tell me what you think and your ideas.
These first pics are of the body, the burn marks on the roof were to correct the distortion.

:disappoin ....turbo charged DODGE in a ford.... shame on you...

just my a few of my thoughts
but never put a dodge engine in a ford.
Never put a turbo charger in an offroader
you cant offroad with a snowplow (although a truck with a plow would be neat)
No side steps, that reduces ground clearence, and make a vehicle ugly IMO

Now, for sumthing positive, i appologies for all the negative feedback, it is your model not mine, but those are things that i just couldnt bring myself to do being a ford lover and offroad enthousiast.

Have you thought about making the rear section (the soft top part) removable, cut it off to expose some wicked rollbars with flip up fog lights? maybe remove the back seat and have a full sized spare, a tool box, and jacks etc..

you do know that snow plows can be removed and that ther are retactable sidesteps or low profile tubular ones right?

but you said "+other stuff feel free to tell me what you think and your ideas" so i told you what i thought and my ideas. your model do what you want with it, you asked what we thought, i stated what i thought.

So please, dont feel offended, just remember your building it for yourself, no one else.

i did say that i wanted your opinion i was just wondering if that could be a solution to the problem what would be a good motor in your opinion not to be an @ss just curious?

hm. Depending on what kind of off roader your trying to depict; i'd go with the following changes: 5.0L EFI from various Revell Mustang kits (or the 5.8 from the AMT F-150 or Revell Saleen)-Carbs and turbo's cant get too sideways, I see those "pegs" on the solid I-Beam. The I-Beam were a primitave IFS set up, which is really great for rock crawling, considering with just a simple coil spring mod, they can have 14 inches of travel. Personally, i would dump both the front and rear axle. Simply because if you lift it too high, you can see the hollow axles. I would reccomend going with a Resin axle for Military trucks- 2 1/2 ton Rockwells.. mm... (There used to be a thread asking about the Paris-Dakar rally trucks, and it had a link in that thread for the resin parts. They also had huge PTO Winches, airbags, and tires.)

thanks for the help im thinking about the saleen motor since i got one lying around i already have the replacement axels and im replacing all of the pieces that connect the frame because of the molded exaust and i just want to put it out there that i only want to build a weekend warrior type of thing not a full blown rock crawler so would a turbo be ok now, a sinle one?

Where'd you get that kit, I totally want to buy it and make the Ted Nuget Zebra Bronco

Well first off when you are off roading you are usually at lower RPMS b/c that's where you have all your power when you are in 4WL. Turbos don't spool or at full boost until you get into the mid to high RPMS.

you guys are right about the turbo i just wasnt thinking i got the kit at my LHS its a revell 1980 2n1 kit

speedstur. I think a nice eaton supercharger is in need for that motor. best thing about those style chargers', is that at 2500rpm your pushing full boost!

*suggestion* how about a sweet snorkel for SERIOUS off-road action.....

i say just build it the way YOU want!!! a turbo on a offroader isnt wrong a v8 will spool up a small turbo fast enough plus youve got tons of torque with a 4Lo Tcase and fornt and rear diff ratios! :sunglasse

I think it will come out great, WHATEVER you do, as long you do it for yourself.

Thanks for the help i am building it the way i want but i do want it to be useful as if it were real.Can any one provid me with some reference pics of snowplow mounting stuff?

speedstur. go for what you want. if it were me, I'd do the eaton style supercharger. where the supercharger sits on top the motor, like on top fuel race cars. of course, a well built 5.8 triton v8 would do the job of a weekend warrior just fine.

Never mind that idea actully i just cheched and i dont have one darn...

Had a snowday today so i got some more time to work on the project as you can see Ive fabricated a visor which needs a little cleaning up on but not too much. i also need your opinion of the hood scoops. They are not glued yet but if i do glue them the edges will be smoothed out. the light bar isnt glued ethier just wanted to do a mach up.there is also a pic of the interior and the seats ive chosen. What do you think?

I like the lightbar.
My thoughts are custom front/rear bumper maybe like www.bentup.com or The ARB bumper below: http://www.allprooffroad.com/tacobumper.jpg and/or some body armor for the rear quarter panels.
