Shift Indicator

I have a 1990 Park Avenue and The shift indicator does not move when I shift gears. I bought a manual at the auto parts store, but it does not give enough details on how to get access to repair what ever is broken. Any help would be appreciated.

If this is an indicator in the dash, it is likely that the cable is either broken or dislodged, which will require some dash disassembly. Though tedious, it is not impossible. Ray

Look at the very bottom side of youe shift bowl you will see a little clip around the 6 o clock position make sure it is on. If it is than you have a broken spring inside the shift indicator.
