Quick question,

What is or could be causing this trouble code to appear. The code 1486 checks w/ (Thermostat Range/Performance Problem). My car has always had a small surge when it gets around normal opp temp. Meaning when the temp. guage hits normal or around there it surges for like a milisecond, one time, and that's it.

I always accredited that to the switching of fuel maps because the ECU now realized the car was warm and leaned out the rich warm up mixture.

I let the car warm up for about 5 min. before I drive, but if the temp gauge is not registering and I take off I'll trip the check engine light about 3 miles down the road. OH this happens when it is really freaking cold outside. Any help? I've checked the connection on the leds, but I'm going to do that again and maybe pack it with some di-electic grease. Also I do not know the temp rang of my thermostat. It was purchased used so I'll also have to investigate that.

HELP

From what I have been learning is that the check engine light will come on if some of the sensors aren't in agreement with each other. Maybe the guy who owned the car before me put one of those crappy gain more hp form the wrong resistor in you air intake temp. Will test tonight.

Does anyone have any suggestions or is lets get technical about stupid racing questions...maybe the should ofs should start their own section. All they talk about is you should of ported that...you should of put a turbo on this ect. Just do it your damn self and then post your actual factual results. It's all good to read and learn, but the most knowledge comes from DOING...
