Porsche 911 C2 Cab...progress

I've been working on this for a while.
My first project of the new year.
Fujimi Porsche 911 C2 Cabrolet... from what I know a 1990 model.
Just some detail shots...a bit of a tease.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/73480Porsche07progress.JPG
The project was stalled while I was working on the Decals for the calipers.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/73480Porsche09progress.JPG
All that and you can almost see them.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/73480Porsche04progress.JPG
A little goof...
I trimmed the speaker grills so the top would fit better and completely forget that they would show if I put on the 'up-top'.
More in a few days :p

Its a nice begining, but I would like to see more pictures.. at least the body pics... Thos wheels are a strange choice for the Porsche... they remind me of OZ superleggra or Carlsson multispoke.. both are a "touring" wheel..more for small 4 door sedans than a sports car.. but the caliper looks real good!

A little background...
I bought the kit off the sale table just for the wheels, those are going into another project.
SO, I borrowed a set of XS-Tuning wheels from another project.
The wheels and brakes are already on the car, so that's not going to change, but I may put some taller tires on.
Here's a beauty shot...
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/73480Porsche16progress.JPG
One that shows the true color...
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/73480Porsche11progress.JPG
And one that shows my current project.
Fitting the warped Up-top.

I completely agree, and disagree. As you can plainly see this is no sports car, i.e. the backseat. Sports car is defined by a two door, two seater coupe/drop top.

This has a rear seat, so it's more of a sports coupe than a sports car.

wow.. the color looks very nice, and that top... stunning. Is that an actual "cloth" top?
85_SR5 - Well.. you certainly have your parameters of considering what a "sports car" is, but I would respectfully point out that Porsche is as pure bred of a sports car as anything that ever came out of the factory. If your analysis of a "sports car" held true than Mazda Miata, would be considered a "sports car" ;)

It is. A miata, tho underpowered, slow, and a girls car(imo, no offense to those who own that are guys). Porsches are sports cars, well, those with 2 seats. I just pointing out, because my insurance claims any 2door, 2seater car from the factory is a sports car. That's why I don't own a vette ;)

01-24-2004, 03:26 PM
hehe, I understand.
Although I also work as a bad faith litigator for a major US insurance corporation and I assure you that you rate for a vetter and a miata is going to be quite different regardless of "two door/two seat" clafficiation.. there are a number of other parameters.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I could own a turbo miata with no problems insurance wise. I just wanted to point out this fact: there's a 1984 porsche wrecked, but running 2dr/2seater car, 5spd. FR. I called the insurance company about it before I got the SR5, they gave me a qoute that was, well more than I care to spare. I also found an 87 porsche convertible, owner never replaced the torn shreded top, I think the model was different becuase it had a back seat, 2dr/4seater. but the Tq/HP ratings were the same. The qoute I recieved on that car was 250-300 usd cheaper than the 84'. I asked why is was much cheaper, my agent said the droptop was classified as a sports coupe, and the other a sports car, although they came with the same power ratings, and same engine/transmission. Anyway, back on the subject, what exactly is wrong with the top for the porsche? My Z8 came with the clear soft top, and the ridges to show where the supports where, out came the 60 grit, sanded the roof smooth, all the way up to 1000 grit. Masked off the molded in rear window and painted the same as the body, color wise. and puff, a hardtop Z8!

The warped Up-top required more than a little work with hot water.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/73480Porsche19progress.JPG
I added a strip of styrene across the front edge to make it a little longer.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/73480Porsche22progress.JPG
You can see where I cracked the top trying to get the warp out of it.
I decided that the interior needs every bit of detail I can squeeze in.
A vert. just begs for a top notch interior. So...
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/73480Porsche23progress.JPG
I drilled out the instruments...
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/73480Porsche24progress.JPG
and fit the decal from behind.
More to come. :p

No new pix for a while...
The dash and interior jumped in the CSC tank. I managed to get a ton of crud in the paint.
The body is curing and I'm just working on lenses and such.

the 'glass' over the gauges does'nt show-up in the picture.
I'll put more pix up as I put the interior together this weekend.
Now off to work on real cars for the rest of the day...lol

You can see the reflection off of the clear 'glass' over the instruments, the key and alarm remote, seat belts, scratch built speaker grills and window sill pads, PE radio and CD as well as window switches. The white flocking doesn't show well, and the interior is a little too glossy for my taste. Maybe some RayBans on the seat...
I 'just' need to finish the lenses and the trim, paint both tops...
Maybe by this time next week... maybe.

Looks great! I love all that interior detailing; it seems so much more real.
Keep up the good work!
Oh, and BTW, Miatas ARE sports cars.
They may not be fast, but they've got it where it counts!

I don't remember if the CD came from Detail Master or Model Car Garage.
I have some of each, and just found this one while I was digging through some random detail parts. The radio face is DM, and the window switches are as well.
For CD's you can use sequins from the craft store.
I use the big ones for mirror faces, and I suspect a paper punch would be close to the right size.
I guess I can stick a mini tutoral on mirror faces in here later in the week too.

Need to make mirror faces for your latest little ride?
Tired of the nasty kit suppled "chrome" mirror faces?
Or, did you get one of those kits without any faces at all?
Here's what to do. Go to your favorite craft store and pick up some sequins. I like the big ones but the little ones will work as long as they are bigger than the mirror face you are making.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/73480progress042-med.JPG
I trim the sequin a little larger than the face and shape it to fit with a 4 way nail file.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/73480progress044-med.JPG
You can see the dividers that I use to measure the mirrors for the faces.
The mirror works well! I captured the reflection of the lettering around my cameras lens.

I hate to say this...
simply entering "sequins" in the google search box at the top of the page will yeld more information then you can ingest in a week of surfing!
I would have included more information about the sequins, but I threw the package away long ago, and I don't remember where I got them either.
