Sunroof - Broke!

Hello All,
My name is Rick, I am new to this forum.

Vehicle: 1991 Mercedes 300E w/six cylinder engine (2.5l).
Mileage about 115K. Very good condition.

Immediate problem: Have a broken sunroof (closed) and need to know how one might break it down to replace it/parts?
By peeking into the side of the panel (from inside) I see a broken plastic articullating joint/hinge (pop-up?) of some sort on the passenger side and a dislocated and/or distorted joint and slide track on the driver side. It all started when the tilt-up didn't go up all the way and/or did not come down properly (a few times - was busy - forgot about checking it out) then sudden death when it failed to open at all. It is now in a 'locked' state.

I would like to keep this option a (working) option especially for the warm weather. :)

1 - Can someone tell me how to remove the sliding panel or get access to the inards?
2 - Do I want to attempt doing this myself?
3 - Is this an expensive repair (time consumming/expensive parts) if I go that route?
4 - I live in Brooklyn, NY if anyone knows a competent repair guy/shop.

Thanks for your help.

Repairing the sunroof is a job for someone who knows how. The sunroof in your car is very similar to those found in VW, Audi, etc. Anyone who can fix one can fix yours. There is the matter of "timing" or matching the "pull" which I watched an MB tech do to my 124 whenI had a broken rail. After searching for someone to fix an uncloseable sunroof, I went to my dealer and asked the cost up front. I ended up having them fix it with new correct parts and warranty. I haven't had a problem since. P.
