ok. i don't know of any AF irc chat room out there. who votes for one? setting up automotiveforums.com with an IRC server isn't all that hard, so who would use it? i know sure as hell i'd be in there 24/7.

Do you have to D/L IRC? Or if we have enough people with AIM we could also do AIM chat. I am up for either but usually later at nite. I can't get on AIM too much during the workday....ya know....bosses LOL

You have to remember. IRC may be the easiest thing to you. But there are members here who are not up to date, and know how to use new things. So it would be better to use a easier program for a chat room, IMO. But either way. I am up for it.

For those that aren't upto date someone could write a tutorial page on how to setup mirc.
Also you could also setup a page with javascript irc client, no need for the end user to install any software.
I'm usually on undernet, gamesnet and dalnet :cyclops:

There are other simplier programs such as Pirch which I use. I had never used an IRC program before and was pretty straight forward.

I thought id bring this back up cause I think it could work. I heard there was a room in the works, and then nothing ever became of it.

Seriously there has to be more ppl that would be interested.

Its all about conformity people. mIRC is a small d/l.

Id be more than willing to offer my services to make a tutorial thread here, or to be a mod as I have quite a bit of knowledge about IRC and its innerworkings.

Heep and I already have a room registerd, #AFchat. I am currently working on a html tutorial on how to go about setting up mIRC. I am also trying to figure out this IRC stats page to put up as well. So give us some time, we are working on it. :)

Feel free to drop in (#AFchat on DALnet) anytime, but I wouldn't expect many people there yet...

I now remember you telling me about it over AIM, but no one was in there, and now I understand why.

Kbs mentioned it a month or so ago, and I d/l'd it to give it a try.

I never really liked it. I dont know why, but the interface didnt impress me. Im sure if I took some time to get used to it, it would be ok.

I tried it for awhile, but ditched it. I didnt like the lack of being able to customize it to how I wanted, without building my own skin. But hopefully this tutorial on how to setup mIRC will get people to start using the IRC chatroom.

'mIRC can be registered easily online, by fax or by postal mail. Please see below to find out how. If you haven't used mIRC yet, please download it and try it out first. mIRC can be used legally for up to 30 days before it needs to be registered.

do you have to pay for it after 30 days?

I'm having trouble configuring mIRC to connect through my firewall at work. I can see the fields in the setup, and I know what goes in them, but it's still failing. Anyone have experience with this?

A dumb question, but do you have the "use firewall" box clicked at the top?

did you try all 3 types of protocols listed, even if its not the one you have?

Most likely either your type of firewall is just not listed, or the port is just completly blocked by the firewall.

I cant access IRC from school anymore, due to the firewall :(

For the IRC delaayed forget Mirc, too complicated. Get PIRCH, it's free, and user friendly.
IRC = Internet Relay Chat.
