New 2003 Running Hot

I have just purchased a 2003 Suburban (LT, 350, 4x4, auto). The temp gauge shows almost 210 around town and on highway. I also have a 1998 Suburban (LT, 350, 4x4, auto) that has always run at about 160. Is the new one (600 miles) running hot?

Sounds like the thermostat in the 2003 might be bad, although I don't know why it would. There are a number of other things it could be too. Have you checked the coolant level in the radiator?

You need to find out what temp thermostat you're supposed to have. A local autoparts dealer or your local GM parts guy should be able to tell you. Is your fan belt properly tensioned? Any leaks on the ground under the engine area when you park? Are you losing coolant but don't know where it's going? Does excessive water drip from your tailpipe?

The coolant level is fine, there are nop leaks, the belt seems tight, no excessive water from the tailpipe.
