? about upgrading upper and lower intercooler pipes

I am looking into replacing mine and what I wanted to know is there really a difference in them seeing as they are all the same size and such, just diff. names. Like I can get the greddy set for $205, but the dejon tool is $250. What do you guys think about upgrading them and is there a noticable difference. Oh and no current mods but a Greddy BOV is on the way as is a K&N FIPK. The reason I am looking at upgrading is because I have a HUGE boost leak somewhere and i can't even do the leak test cuz it holds no pressure. Can't find the leak so I figured I'll go ahead and replace this stuff now.

Well having solid piping means that you will not have a leak from the pipe due to cracks. They add a nice look to the engine bay, and probably help to radiate the heat from the air travling through the pipes.(not sure about that but i think it happens to some extent).

Good luck finding the boost leak, and check that your wastegate is completly shut as well as the BOV is put on properly.

so basically what you're saying is brands don't matter as they are all the same?

Also <newb> where is the wastegate

Edit: NM I just discovered it's inside the turbo

Well im sure that cheap ones have less quality in the materials used or quality of the welds holding it together. But they are mostly the same thing.

Your wastegate is combined with your turbo.

The shiney brass coloured object to the right is part of the wastegate. There is a rod coming from this object, try to move it by hand and see if it will close further.

cool, I'll check that out tomorrow, thanks

a huge leak should be oblivious. what kind of pressure check are you doing? that shiny brass thing is the wastegate actuator. and if you aren't holding pressure with the test, it has nothing to do with the wastegate. now if you are dirving and you can't hold boost or can't spool, it may be that. you can get the dejon tools intercooler pipe kits made custon to fit any style BOV. i personally have the GReddy kit, and the GReddy type-s BOV. i like it.

It does make a difference between cheap pipes and good pipes.. On some of the cheap pipes (not greddy), they dont have a lip around the end of the pipe where the hose and clamp would fit over. This might cause, with enough air, the hoses to blow off. The greddy looks like a pretty decent product, I just didn't like the 90º bend that connect to the intercooler. I got a dejon tool setup for $156 used off of dsmtrader.

I did this test right here http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html

and I can't hold my pressure gauge never builds up or anything. My car drives like shit. It started bogging out at about 80 mph, then at like 65 or so and everytime I'd hit about 3k rpms it'd start to bog out and drive like crap and now its driving like absolute shit. It's horrible. Everyone is telling me it's a boost leak. I had a guy ride w/ me and he told me the same thing. I can't find it anywhere tho?

How much pressure are you building with the tester, and how long does it hold it. It should take at least a full 60 seconds to go from 10 to 0 psi in the manifold.

man i have a 99 gst i just purchased why is it that these cars seem to have so many problems with boost etc when thier not even that old? Seem like alot of people have issues with thier DSMs on here just seems like alot of problems for a not so old car

they're minor, easily fixable problems that mainly occur after modding. The eclipse is a good reliable vehicle. Just has some minor kinks that need fixed every now and then

I owned my car today guys :) It works again. Finally!! This is the first time it's worked since I bought it (week and a half ago). Turns out pipe going from the intercooler to the BOV wasn't connected to the intercooler. Must have blown off. That is awesome it's fixed.

Its simple. Turbo systems are more complicated than NT cars. More parts equals more problems. There are two types of people in this world. The pussies that will cry about a squealing belt and could never deal with the intricacies of a turbo car, and the real men (and women) that will step up to the plate and get the job done. If dealing with a blown off intercooler pipe every couple months means I get to make 400 whp on pump gas and own everything on the road, so be it ;) 6 motors later, and I'm still not complaining.

hard intercooler pipes are great id change them asap that will get ride of a possable riske part of where it could leak but pipes will reduce some turbo lag along with better easier flow becase first hard round pipe is easy for air to flow threw and also on a 2gen under that fuse pannel under the hood and the stock air box there is a plastic part af pipe that connects to the back side of the intercooler which the pipe is crushed to fit in there so they get rid of that but hope that will help you and also the problem why the turbo dsm's with the boost problems are because the gs's and rs's dont get modded hard or anything the gst's and gsx's are for the people who are going to race them and are constantly ready to fix them that is part of why they are more popular for problems plus a turbo sistem takes much more care to keep in good shape
