'91 problems out of nowhere??

Once upon a time ago I had a 1991 Pontiac Bonneville that was a relatively reliable vehicle and ran nicely. Then a few weeks ago it starting sputtering and ideling like crap. SO I took it a mechanic/friend of mine to change the fuel filter and he said it wasn't the fuel filter it was the ignition coils (sp?) Anyway, after shelling out $200 to get all that fixed I took it for a drive today to run some errands and it ran great--no problems. Until....I was sitting at a red light and it just SHUT OFF with no warning of any kind. The "Service Engine Soon" light came on and it shut off. So after a loud 4 letter proclamation, I put it in neutral and it started up fine. After that, ALL the way home (a 30 minute drive) EVERY time I touched the brake pedal the "Service Engine Soon" would *flicker* on and off but would never stay on. It did it more and more and then when I reached the very last stop sign before I got to my house it stalled and the "Service Engine Soon" light came on and so did ALL the lights on the "Systems Monitor" ?!?!? It starts up fine after it stalls, but I don't understand why the dashboard is lighting up like a Christmas tree and it stalls but it doens't do anything else.

I don't understand it. All the work my friend did on the car and it's doing sh*t it never did before. I know it wasn't something he did because he knows everything about everything about cars, so don't expect to see us on "Judge Judy" anytime soon.

Anyway, does anyone have ANY clue as to what this could be?

Thanks folks!

Did you ever get this resolved? I have a '91 Bonneville that I took in to have the brake lines replaced & ever since I picked it up the "service engine soon" light has been on.

Sorry thread closed. Bringing up old threads will normally not get you any faster or better replies except get a Moderator's attention. Best to wait and see if anyone replies to your current post which from what I see there are replies. For anyone interested reference thread below.
