ugh, yah, i drew a skyline a couple months ago, i had to rush it cuz it was for school so the shading isnt good. ummmm, i used a stomp for this, and im wondering if theres a way to use it to make shading look better, because each time i use it, it makes it much darkers and it just smudges it. SOOOO any tips on whether i should use stomps or not would be great. Im talking to you aseanz, how to you shade your stuff. thnx, and heres the pic, i hope this crap works:

**edit** OK< DAMN< it's on my site then, PG. 9
ok here it is : www.cardomain.com/id/mad_psychopath (http://www.cardomain.com/id/mad_psychopath)
hope that works, if not, then someone say "boob"
**edit** Actually, someone say "boob" anyways, along with what they think of my skyline.

you get an 'a' for effort, but your whole sense of perspective is way off. it is like a cubist car. you are having trouble visualizing and placing planes and elipses in correct, or, rather, convincingly correct, dimensional space. learn the basics of perspective first. then try it again. nevermind shading and other stuff. you need to go back to basic lines. get a book on it. heed vanishing points. etc... then you will be able to "see" the model better. right now you are all over the map.

what do you mean by "all over the map" and i rushed this drawing, it was for my art class in high school and i had to finish it in time so i didnt really care about it being good. if i spent more time on it im sure it would look better.
but yah, thnx for the replies

bear in mind that i am trying to help you eventhough you will not like what i am telling you. your reply is typical of young students: you rushed the drawing. or you didn't really care. but i am telling you an artist with concrete knowledge of perspective can rush through anything and it will not matter, it will not be an excuse. your artwork is the truth serum: you have little knowledge of perspective and recession into space. your drawing is all over the map because you have the grille, the roof, the wheels, the seats, on conflicting planes in perspective so the car looks generally "cubist" or off. you are not aware of vanishing points into space when you are drawing, as you are enamored by the shading and the pride in that execution. this is very clear from the rendering. you can not talk around it. the drawing reveals what you were thinking and what you were NOT thinking about. and it does it instantly.
also, you can spend three months on that drawing. and if you still remain unaware of the laws of perspective, you will not generate a stronger picture. drawing a car is basically an excercise in engineering drawing. you have a good grasp of lighting, shading, etc, but lack an intuitive sense of foreshortening of objects in space. your wheels give that dead away. instead of defending your weaknesses as if they are okay, get a book on basic drafting, as you will only be helping yourself further the cause. do you dig that?

Not to get on anyone's bad-side or anything, but I don't believe we have seen your drawings, Bonzelite. I know, you haven't seen mine, that is why I don't criticize. Because I don't have any proof that mine are better. So maybe if we see that your drawings are as good as you say, we'll let you criticize others...That seems fair.

people usually say that, but i believe if you have something that can truly give the person constructive criticism and help then that's that, regardless of drawing ablility.
Just like on the 'Idol' shows, the judges can't sing for crap but can still offer the contestants constructive feedback.
:)
Just my 2 cents

i know that. you will be able to "see" anything better, especially live models, if you pay attention to perspective. if you are not conditioned to seeing objects this way, in perspective, then it will be very clear. that is my whole point, btw. i am not in doubt of his drawing ability or talent. he has both. now refine it. i am imparting my critique because i see that he is trying hard and can use some teaching. the raw material is there. just a bit more technical skill, and, bam, the guy is awesome. my hope is that he KEEPS drawing more and more.
the thing is, if you post a drawing and there are things about it that are distracting, then instantly you open yourself up to criticism. so it is a brave act to post anything at all. and i see that, too.
dead giveaways for car drawing problems are bad elipses of the wheels, wrong or off-looking proportions of the body, and incorrect use of perspective.

no bad sides here. i just tell it like it is. i'm not into "i am better than you," either. but i am not going to just sit here, look at drawings, and say "great, dude," or "good, cool," when it is clear that there is room for improvement. otherwise, we are all just being fake and safe. and that does not make anyone a better artist. why should fellow artists be fake and safe when most of society goes that way? i can tell instantly who is on the right track, and who is clueless and talentless. the guy drawing the skyline R34 is talented. and i want him to get better.
because i am a dumb-a$$, i cannot post pics on here. but i can give you my web page addy. go to: www.visualhomage.com
there are samples of storyboards there. the site will evolve as i shift the company more into dealing directly with import-tuner people/companys.
cheers.

This is probably the best and worst part of being an "artist." It allows you to receive input as to how you can improve or do something better but it also can be somewhat degrading because people often can be sort of harsh in the critique but it is only to make your work better. Most "artists" are notorious procrastenators (sp?) and can always give you excuses for below talent/sub-par work, but honestly rushing/disinterest will not be worthy excuses if you plan on pursuing ANY career, much less one in the arts because you almost always will be on tight schedules or maybe something you are too thrilled with.
It is obvious you have skills homes, so just take all the criticism in and use it to make your next one even hotter! It is ironic to me that the thing you said was not good (shading) is probably the best quality of it.

yah, dont think im mad or anything, cuz im not, thnx for telling me how it is. i hate people who tell others their stuff is good when it clearly isnt. thnx for telling me how it is and i will get books and try to get better. i love constructive criticism, i can only get better by taking it in and i will keep on drawing to make my stuff better. , ok, i think thats all. thnx for all the replies people.

Oh, I forgot to say that it is nicely shaded (for a hurried job) and also that the only thing is that the wheels are off.
