my car yesterday had some really bad problems. when i was driving it and i put it in netural to listin to the radio and keep warm. and i wanted to put it in reverse to back up a little the shifter wouldnt go into revers so i tried to put it into drive and when i did that it felt like i put it into a blank gadge so i put it into 2 and 1 and they were both blank. so i called to get my car towed. this morning i called the shop and the guy told me that my transmission cables snaped and i need new ones. the car is a 2000 and it is out of the warnity did i do something wrong or is it the cars fault? and can anyone tell me how to avoid it in the future plez?

speaking for myself, i have never heard of anyone breaking a cable switching gears in an automatic tranny, manual yes but not auto. Maybe they put in a weak cable at the plant and over time just broke....mines a 98 and never had a problem. I don't think you didnt do anything millions of other folks have done. I would call Ford(not your dealer) but ford and see if there is a TSB out on that problem or maybe help you eat some of the repair cost. Good Luck.

It's the car's fault. To quote my mechanic "Ford trans cables are all junk. Even our big hauler had the same problem and we had to replace the cable" as he was towing my 98 out of the driveway...
