Valves and other assorted noises

I know I've asked this question before, but I still don't understand why my valves are rattling. It's never done this before, until I had the head gaskets replaced a few months back. Even with a Hypertech it didn't used to do it. I run premium grade fuel (93 oct) and my air filter is brand new. It drives me insane, they seem to rattle all the time now, they used to just do it when I was going up a slight incline, or passing someone. Now it does it just starting off from a stop sign. If I turn the radio up, its not noticeable, but I am kina picky about stuff like this.

Also, the engine seems to make a grinding noise, or a sound like an exhaust leak or something, it does keep up with engine speed, but if you go trough a dip, or make a right turn, the noise stops. It seems to cycle with the suspension, or the frame flexing. The truck has done this ever since I have owned it.

Also, how can you adjust the doors to shut tighter? I have a air leak in the driver side, and the passenger door makes kind of a bumping sound like its not shut completely when you hit bumps in the road, or my really rough driveway.

It also has horrible wind noise coming from the windshield area, but I'm not worried about this, unless someone has a quick answer. I'm more concerned about the valves.

What year truck and what motor?? If you had the heads off and it did'nt ping before #1 the valves need to be adjusted #2 the timing is to far advanced. The doors check when you open if the door drops a little you need new pin's and bushings also check weather striping and latches. As far as the windshield mine also made the noies so bad it sounded like someone knocking in both corners I fixed this by pulling the weather striping back and glueing the weather striping to the windshield with a good silicone {black} Again this depends on the year of truck NBS or OBS. Hope this help's

It is a 99 Z71 NBS w a 5.3L w about 83K miles on it. What do you suggest I do about the timing?

Well you know what they say......CHEVROLET Can Hear Every Valve Rod Or Lifter Every Time. Yeah my striping on the door was coming off so i just took some 3M and it did the trick....for now. About the valves i would look into an adjustment. Probably your best bet.

Why would it be necesary to adjust the valves? I know its almost impossible to alter the timing on this engine if that's the case. but I'm on a kind of tight budget right now, im fixing up a house

It could be your hypertech is advancing the timing to much I would take it out for now.[reprogram to stock] Or if you have a exhaust leak this will sound like the lifters in all rpm range a pinging sound when under load {up hills\passing ect.} It is not uncommon for the exhaust manifold to leak or have a crack. As far as a grinding sound check your belt tensioner\power steering\box lose bolts. I personaly Think if it is not a exhaust leak and it did'nt ping before the heads were off it is a simple valve\lifter adjustment. Good luck

Alrighty, I'll get it looked at. I'm not to fimiliar on how to adjust valves on newer engines.
I really appreciate the info, at least if nothing else it gives me somewhere to start at.
