changing head light bulbs

it may sound stupid, but the owners manual says to contact the dealer to change the light bulbs to the head lights, having lood at it it appears that the only way to chang the light bulb is to remove the head light assembly, there are a couple of skrews holding the assembly down, however it wont come out, do you have to remove the front bumper or side fender to get at it? if so how.

I am having the same problem with my 2000 Altima headlight. Can get the clips off, but cannot get the bulb out. Do I have to take the front of the car apart to change a headlight? Or am I missing something here?

I know that they say you are supposed to remove the whole headlight assembly, but I just removed the headlights from the back. The passenger side was quite easy, as I just removed the clip off of the top of the radiator reservoir, and there was the headlight. The drivers side was a little more difficult, because of the battery being so close, but I managed. :)

you know what i had this problem with my 99 Hyundai Elantra.(yes i know this is an Altima forum but maybe its the same problem) well what happened was that there was a bolt like down behind the light assembly. it was hard to see and i think it was blocked by a part of the intake system that i had to remove. if u carefully look around the light maybe theres a bolt somewhere.

Is this the same case for the 2001 altima, because I am planning on putting PIIA's in? Also, is there anything special I need to keep in mind when changing the turn/parking lights that are located right next to the headlight bulbs??

I replaced mine with SilverStars and didn't have to remove the headlight lamp assembly. Granted, it wasn't easy and took some fiddling around to replace the bulbs.
