im so sick of people thinking that they can grab an s13 for $2 and get a great deal on an sr20.
everyone thinks s13s are sooo cheap. no one realizes the prices are gettin higher and higher. now we got kids buying ratty s13s with bentup frames and 3 wheels thinking that once they get that job at mcdonalds, theyll have the best drag racer and drifter car.
a 240sx is somewhat of an expensive car. it breaks down alot and it takes money to fix it. once you swap engines, itll take even more money to fix that.
sorry guys, i guess im venting cause im tired of hearing kids say how they can build a silvia under 1 grand.
if i didnt love drifting so much, id be rockin an imprezza 2.5 rs

That's definitely true. Prices probably started going up at least two years ago, and people still think they can get stuff for next to nothing.
I remember SCC had an article on building a 'Silvia' for $3k. They managed to do it, too. They got a 240SX coupe with a blown motor for $700, then added the SR and the front end conversion...but that was almost two years ago. Good luck trying to do that now.hehe

I gotta call from my Boy lastnight on Okinawa He lined up a S13 silvia with a built CA for 500 bucks! Screw buying them here logik! lets get into Importing cheap 180's and silvia and sell for 5 times the price now! I'll be back in Oki in March. Also found a 92 180 for 600 bucks with a bad trubine (CA engine)

In Japan they do. The later model and the K's silvia have SR's I almost bought a 91 drift ready Sil80 with a CA for 400 right before I left Island this care was totally set for drift but the previous owner only drifted right and the suspenion was tired and the car always tilted and the clutch was toast. The cool part was that with the clutch totally slipping and smokeing that car would get slideways from a stop or from a normal driving speed!

Amen to that. Back when I was shopping for my 240, I was trying to find an S13 for a killer deal. But I found out that I can get an S14 for about 500$ more, I couldn't believe it. SR20s are just going up in pricing cause of demand, instead of down like I hoped. This is why I'm probably going to buy an RB20 instead, it's about the same price. Impreza 2.5s are teh sex too.

And double amen to that. The first day of driving around, I made the mistake of driving it in the very infrequent california rain. The lady before me had a custom CAI and was dumb enough to cut the fenderwall "for more airlflow." So the first puddle I hit, I of course hydrolocked it and bent 2 rods. Not even driveable now. It was fun while it lasted though, that's for sure.

First off there in Okinawa Japan. Second there so cheap cause there owned by us military people. there only on isand between 1-3 years they buy a used silvia for 2 or 4 grand start building it and when it comes time to leave don't have 5-10 grand to bring and register it state side. so since it has to be sold before they leave they sell it to a pal for 500-1000 dollars. and it's a visous cycle!!! This is good for people like me who want to live and build a car in Japan and have plenty of time to save up to bring it home to California. I can always make the money for importing by sellin SR's and RB's on Ebay. One of the used car dealers on Okinawa I know has a 180(Kouki) "comes stock with a SR") for around 3-6 grand depending on year and any mods and such.

k, just got my 240..as you all know, looked and ran perfectly fine till it
wouldnt go into gear...took it in, finally got a safety inspection...which
should have been done before i even bought it...and it turns out that
there is at least 2 grand of work that has to be done to it, just to get it
to run decent...suspension...exhaust...clutch(retard before me decided
he put BRAKE FLUID INTO THE HYDROLIC CLUTCH FLUID RESEVOIR)
id sue him for as much money as his ass can pour out, but i cant cuz
its buyer beware sorta thing...all that stuff i just listed, was claimed
(by the stupid fuck who sold it to me) to have been brand new... the
car has 93000 miles on it, and its a pile of junk...if you guys wanna
buy it, ill maybe sell it, but im not sure if i want to yet. maybe i can
get by with some of the major stuff done, then squeek my way thru to
the minor stuff, but if it turns out that the other stuff has to be done
right away, i may just junk it, and i know you guys would hate to see

ditto what stealthj said (wow...that's a first :p )
as long as your frame isn't beyond repair, everything else is fixable.
DOT3 brake fluid is what's supposed to be used in hydraulic clutch systems, so don't panic about that.
everything else, assuming it's not bad enough that the car won't move, can be fixed with time. fix the things first that will need to be fixed in order for the car to run (ie clutch cylinders). suspension can wait assuming it's not too bad, exhaust can wait assuming you don't start to get tickets for noise violation etc.
my car is almost like this too...although not quite as bad. i got a couple of happy surprises as well, but i can work through it. for instance, my clutch stopped working on the drive home from buying the car. it's going in to get repaired on the 30th. but at least for that the previous owner sent me back $200 from the original price of the car, to pay for the clutch repair, since he said he "didn't want it to seem like i'm fucking you over, because i'm not." he honestly didn't know about the clutch, and i believe him, so it's ok. i also didn't know about the leak in the gas-tank, but this is also easily fixed. i can get a new tank off a parts car for $40 and just swap the old with the new. i also just found a small rust spot on my frame, but it's very small, can only fit 2 fingers in it, and i have a friend who does body work who's guaranteed me he can fix it.
when buying a $750 13 year old car, you kind of have to expect this sort of thing. no matter how low the mileage (mine only has 194,000 KM, which is low for a 240SX in Ontario), there will always be problems. i prepared myself for that, and despite the few problems here and there that my car has, they're all easily repairable. some might have to wait a bit until i make some money, but eventually they can all be repaired and the car will work like new again. so don't lose all hope.

its not really 2 grand in repairs prolly, they are prolly vounting labor and getting parts form dealersip
its like if susp. is fuckd or somerhing, u wer gonna replace it anyway right?/
u are going to swap engines right? (im sure u wont keep your original motor,) KA or whatever....
you are going to upgrade everything anyway, so keep it, dont sell it, and dont even trip :D

i know that the stuff can be repaired, but remember im a 16 year old kid that works at a grocery store... i love the car to death, but am incredibly pissed off at the guy who sold it to me...ive got a list here of "stuff hes done to the car"
-Alternator
-starter
-"new tires"
- Clutch
-brakes
-drive shaft
-spark plugwires/plugs
-battery
-catalytic converter
"small problems
-no ignition
-small squel from alternator belt
lets see here... the clutch has already gone to hell cuz he put some sort of fluid in there that doesnt belong (brake fluid or not) the one of the "new tires" is already bald, proly cuz of the suspension that he supposedly got upgraded with the eibach phase II springs...
heres a list of the stuff the mech said had to be done...
-trans, all seals swelled, needs draining and replacement of seals
-left drive shaft
-rear right coil springs broke
-rear right tire -bald
-miscellanius wires
-frame, underbody rusted badly, large whole through
-coolant leak
-front left susp bushing
-exhaust work
he knew the car was a piece of shit, thats why he sold it for 750$...i didnt, but still, that doesnt mean he can go and lie about having a new clutch, and shit like that...i think ill take him to small claims court and get AT LEAST half of what i paid for back...also, notice how he said that the only problems were ignition and loose belts?? there are a lot more problems than that. ive tried his cell phone numerous times, his house, even more. still havent been able to get hold of the little fuck, it seems hes misteriously dissappeared...hmmm... could it be that he knew he sold me a pile of shit??? and didnt want to hear shit about it later???

he knew the car was a piece of shit, thats why he sold it for 750$...i didnt, but still, that doesnt mean he can go and lie about having a new clutch, and shit like that...i think ill take him to small claims court and get AT LEAST half of what i paid for back...also, notice how he said that the only problems were ignition and loose belts?? there are a lot more problems than that. ive tried his cell phone numerous times, his house, even more. still havent been able to get hold of the little fuck, it seems hes misteriously dissappeared...hmmm... could it be that he knew he sold me a pile of shit??? and didnt want to hear shit about it later???

i know that the stuff can be repaired, but remember im a 16 year old kid that works at a grocery store... i love the car to death, but am incredibly pissed off at the guy who sold it to me...ive got a list here of "stuff hes done to the car"
-Alternator
-starter
-"new tires"
- Clutch
-brakes
-drive shaft
-spark plugwires/plugs
-battery
-catalytic converter
"small problems
-no ignition
-small squel from alternator belt
lets see here... the clutch has already gone to hell cuz he put some sort of fluid in there that doesnt belong (brake fluid or not) the one of the "new tires" is already bald, proly cuz of the suspension that he supposedly got upgraded with the eibach phase II springs...
heres a list of the stuff the mech said had to be done...
-trans, all seals swelled, needs draining and replacement of seals
-left drive shaft
-rear right coil springs broke
-rear right tire -bald
-miscellanius wires
-frame, underbody rusted badly, large whole through
-coolant leak
-front left susp bushing
-exhaust work

No his uncle had one and since then he wanted one....I don't think he needed to state everything that was wrong with it cause he is not a dealership. How would he have known there was all that was wrong with it? What you should have done was take it to a mechanic to have it checked out before buying it. Personally I don't think he is responsible(don't flame me just my opinion). Think about it like this, if you sold a car and didn't know what exactly was wrong with it, are you held responsible? Or if they blew the engine in a week, is it fair that you have to pay for it? Not saying you did all that was wrong with it. It just life....life isn't always fair....I know you are upset and i would too, but I would have checked everything out, even the littlest detail.....jack the car up and stuff ya know. Well this is a learning experience and sometimes it going to cost you....at least you know now what to do when buying a car and what to look for. You should also check the forum about buying/selling to get an idea how to look for things and where. Oh and I am sorry if I am off topic

Oh, check out ebay and www.car-parts.com for any parts you need or any junk yard around you....cheaper than buying it new...

yeah, i know what you mean, but the thing is, he said the car was in good condition...and why did he sell it for so cheap?? im a retard for not getting it checked out, i know, flame me if ya want. it still pisses me off that he was such a dumb ass for putting something that doesnt belong in the transmission, into the transmission... why would all the seals swell up?? cuz he put the wrong stuff in, thats not my fault, he should at least give me $500 for that. he said he just got new suspension and tires, well, the rear right is shot, for both, the front left is shot, theres another investment for me, he should pay for those too. if im even going to keep the car, im prolly not going to, if any of you guys wanna buy it, let me know, but ahead of time, youll need a trailer, and will need to pick it up, so youd have to be within about 50-100 miles of milwaukee...

I am not trying to flame you or anything and I know how you feel for getting ripped off or something...at least you got something for it. A while ago I was con out of 1300 for a laptop....I got nothing for it and still hoping they catch the guys so i can get something back.....Oh and I will pm you a car that is near you i think and hopefully you can get.....don't want anyone else to know lol

Amen to all this. Its impossible to find a halfway decent S13 round here for under 4grand
Someone wanted 2grand for an 1989 with 200000km on it(125000 miles)
Brians car has rusty rockers, and quarter panels, and his car was the cleanest car for under 2grand when he got it. Thank god its in semi decent shape.
Its just luck. Despite the high prices of AE86s, a friend of mine got one for 200 bucks, with minor rust, completely running, frame is straight as an arrow. He got Tokico Blues for $6, and the Supra rims, and hes ready to go. Thats luck.
