Which exhaust do you guys have underneath your cars? Do you have an American one (Greddy, A'pexi, HKS, ...) or a European one (Sebring, Remus, Supersprint, ...) and which one do you guys think is best to get? Maybe post some pics of exhausts. :)

I still have my stock one. If I'm going to buy one, I think I would use a European brand. Don't know which one yet. Does anyone know something about Skytune? They are very cheap...

I wouldn't go for skytune, just because they are all show, no go, thye aren't calaculated for your car. They make a lot of noise, too much imo.
If you go for an exhaust take one that was especially designed for your car.
I went for some prices yesterday, this is what i found out untill now (all prices are do-it-yourself mounting)
Remus: 2x102 mm Future Design (14700 BEF or 365 EUR)
Supersprint: single tip 100 mm, new design 2002 (14300 or 355 EUR)
Laser: Single tip 100 mm (11700 BEF or 290 EUR)
AVB-sports: single tip (18000 BEF or 446 EUR)
Sheepdog: single tip (25000 BEF or 620 EUR)
All are just the last part, not cat-back systems

You might want to check out Ralley Shop Diest. They offer custum made exhausts at low prices (6000-8000 BEF). I've heard a lot off good things about them. They also produce a nice sound, not to loud, but very deep.

I like the american/japanese style exhaust, because they're very rare over here. They are only very expensive to import imo.
I personally like the one with a special silencer tip, so you can lower the sound when you have had enough of it. like the one in the link I put in below.
http://www.apexi-usa.com/exhausts_dunk.asp
I think no exhaust will realy give you more power... it's more likely to give you less power, or you must have a lot of other modifications so it really needs more diameter or so.
I've still got the standard exhaust, I want to replace it once, but no hurry.

Oh yes an A'PEXi, one of the best, but unfortunately only available as a catback system and as so very expensive (count between 745 and 990 EURO). The same goes for Greddy.
Probably i will get the Remus future design

Remus is OK I guess, I have a single 90mm Remus, not too loud, just a nice deep sound. Don't expect any hp gains with it though.
If you want something different maybe you can consider a muffler from EPS (www.uitlaten.com) hand made SS, they aren't cheap especially if you want your own design but they are real good quality.

I still have a stock exhaust. If I was to change I'd probably go with a Thermal R&D. A lot of the 'knowledgeable' people on AF have them and seems to come very highly recommended.

I had a Remus exhaust on my old Civic and a Sebring on my Lude. Both have got a really nice and not too loud sound IMO. They are pretty much the same in style and sound and quality is really good (no rust yet). I wouldnīt buy a complete system because the hp gain wonīt be that big compared to the price except you want to turbo your car. A muffler shouldnīt hurt the performance of your car and will make it sound a lot better.

Do you know what i don't get, why is it all so expensive for honda's? the cheapest muffer i can get is about 400 euro's. For a peugeot 106 the most expensive is less then 400 euro's. the same with my side repeaters... at the rover dealer about 35 euro...at honda 40 euro.... for a peugeot 106 about 15-20 euro's.
replacing my brake pads... don't know exactly the price...but also much much more expensive... grrrr.... can anyone explain?

Pretty easy - Supply and Demand. There isn't a big enough market for honda yet. They don't sell as many cars as peugeot, ford, VW, etc. The aftermarket suppliers know this and charge us honda owners too much.
You should see some of the prices we get charged in Ireland. Sometimes twice as much as the UK. We are just treated as idiots :(

Another reason could be that many parts used on a Honda are already very well designed so that it would more éxpensive to do the researches to create better parts! But Iīm not sure about that.

you're right that honda is not a real great market for tuning, but it's really getting better. At my place there are quite a few honda civic/crx's... more than peugeot 106... and in france they may not even put under an aftermarket muffler or so, so that's so real market i think. And i don't think the engineering for honda product will be that hard... imo most tuning products are made for the looks... especially for the europe brands that produce honda parts... especially my accord (maybe they do some more work for civic's) I don't think that my strutbrace is really tested on an accord, they just measure the size etc. and produce a nice and shiney piece of aluminium/steel ans sell it.

I have a custom made exhaust (single to dual)
is it true they take away some power?
and if so how much PK/PS do they take away?

Depends on what you have done. An N/A engine should have some backpressure from the exhaust. If you enlarge the pipe diameter of the exhaust beyond a certain diameter you will loose hp. Alltough an increase of pipe diameter up to 2.25" will cause an hp increase, just don't go beyond this point. Same goes for the muffler.

My new exhaust is mounted ! Finally it turned out to be something completely different than a Remus. I'm now the owner of a Simota exhaust system, and it sounds very good, and looks great. You can compare it (the looks) with a 5Zigen fireball exhaust.

Simota was previously very famous for making Air filters, but they've started a new line of exhaust systems. THe price is reasonable and the quality seems to be good, it's made of full inox. Even the piping. The looks are very special, it's something completely different than the European styled exhausts, you can really see the muffler. And what's more, you can remove the noise killer (silencer) very easily by removing 2 bolts and sliding it out (and back in), but i haven't tried that yet.

I bought it at AVB-sports ( http://www.avb-sports.be ) , he had it in stock. It fits a 92-00 Honda Civic 2-door and 4-door. So it should also fit your car.
You can clearly see the 2 bolts that are holding the noise killer ;)

I haven't measured the diameter of the tip yet, but i guess it will be somewhere are 100 mm.
Yep, the little tip you see inside the big tip is the tip (what a sentence :D) of the silencer. If you remove the silencer you remove the complete inner ring.
I've installed it myself, it was very easy. If you can get it from the ground it will take you approx. 1 hour (when you do a little talking in the meantime and no rush at all). Just loose two bolts and unhook it. Hook the new one back in and tighten the bolts. Job done. Just make sure when you untighten the old bolts that you don't break them, just use enough oil (like WD40) and give it some time to do its work.

I don't know how loud it is without the silencer, because i'm very satisfied with the sound as it is with the silencer in. So i haven't removed it yet. I don't like the ghetto noise like those guys in their VW Golfs and Kadett GSI are making.
An exhaust like this will run like 310 - 370 EURO if you do the install yourself otherwise you have to add 10 - 20 % depending on the shop.
Tenzo R exhausts will cost around 400 EURO
A Mugen Sheepdog will go for 620 EURO.

Both will sound very nice while the catback system will be louder than just a muffler (really loud sometimes). vtec1600, how does your muffler 'bevalt' (can't get the english word, getting old I think). I'm thinking of buying the same brand as yours, but I don't want a 2 loud sound. Is it making much sound? What I heard is that a 'sport' muffler begin's making it's real sound after about 1000 km, then the resonator foam should be burned out (to get it legal ). I regularly drive with 4000 rpm on the highway and don't want to get irritated by the sound.
Have you already removed the silincer tip?
Thanks in advance, I hope your feedback can help me.

What I heard is that a 'sport' muffler begin's making it's real sound after about 1000 km, then the resonator foam should be burned out (to get it legal. After 1000 km? I removed the silencer this weekend to clean it, and it makes a loud sound when removed. With the silencer in, the sound really stays down. Only when you really push it, it gets loud. On the highway, your engine (in my case) is making more noise than the exhaust so no difference there. I think if you would measure the dB it would be the same as a standard one. Only it's the sound is lower, it gives a deep tone. Not like those Golfs.
The sound stays the same during the complete life, so the sound in the beginning will not change a bit. Because it's a different system than remus or sebring.

That seems 2 be a nice exhaust then, I think it will give more sound when you accelerate fast??? That's a thing i like, but not all day long. Thanks for your comment.
Veetec, very strange about that remus. A friend of mine had a sebring on a golf vr6, that was a real nice sound, when accelerating fast and then shifting (engine going to lower revs) it gave a 'bang', super! He later on put a sebring on a bmw 320, but that one wasn't nice at all, no nice sound, more a cheap loud sound.

But when I was sitting in my old Lude I couldnīt hear the Sebring exhaust very much because my air-intake was much louder! Thatīs what I really like about intakes: they are quiet in lower rpms but when youīre accelerating into higher rpms they start to become really loud (in a nice way IMO)!

It only gives a louder sound when you push your pedal all the way down, that's why my first gas stop after i put the exhaust on was a lot earlier than before :) I just wanted to hear that sound time after time, so longer riding on high rpm resulted in a much higher fuel consumption, but now it's back to normal. (Or better, almost back to normal )

Stop whining Y'all! Come to Norway and check out our prices! It seems as though the goverment tries to make us stop buying stuff for our cars! It's pretty wild..But they can't stop me! My Civic is going to be the bomb! :)
PS. I just bought myself a Supersprint muffler. Don't know the price in Euros, but it was about 300$..Looks nice as hell though!! Any experiences with Supersprint anyone?

Hey riceviking welcome to forum :)
I have a Supersprint muffler, it is very quit when idle you can hardly hear it but in high rpm and when VTEC kicks in it screams.
And they sure look good :)

First of all: Thanks for the warm welcome!
civic_1.6_16v: (damn, long nick :) I'll post some pictures as soon as I get some. I've just had it for a little while, so I haven't got around to buying rims and tyres yet. Hopefully I'll be able to afford it this spring. Supersprint muffler is going on thursday and H&R 35mm lovering spring is soon to be ordered. I'll let you know!
brace: That's just what I want. My girlfriend is studying 500km away, so it's essential for my head that it's not to loud on those trips. Love some noise during acceleration though!:D When Vtec kicks in..I wish.. Hopefully later :bloated:

Welcome to AF, riceviking! Finally we got a member from the north, too! Most members of the europe forum seem to live very close to each other (germany, belgium, netherlands) and there are also some `island europeansī (U.K. :D ) but there arenīt any members who are living in the north and south of europe anymore (except of you now :) )!! IMO it would be nice if we would have got some members from spain, france,..., too!
