GA vs Civic's

I have a 97 Grand AM with the 2.4 Twin Cam and a 5speed all i have on it is an iceman intake. My one friend has a 00ex civic with intake, catback, and lowered with strut braces, and my other friend has a 90 civic hatch with a b18 swap in it, with intake, not sure about his exshust setup but its aftermarket (might be just catback) lowered. and both civics are 5speeds.

Who do you think would win?

00ex vs 90hatch
GA vs 90hatch
GA vs 00ex

You could probably hammer the ex....the hatch would probably be victorious b/c its relatively low curb weight and a b18 (depending on model) makes a nice power:weight ratio

Probably a very close race between you and the EX.
The hatch will probably get you, not by very much.

I think its the B18A1. It has a black cover on the top of it.

you might be able to beat them both well the ex for sure unless you cant drive. but you against the hatch would be good he might get you might get him if you can drive you might get it.

i think the hatch will get you, because first its lighter then both and second it actually has decent torque.

I heard that V6 Grand Ams (3.1 liter I think it is) are fast as hell.

no the 3400 are quick. they run anywhere from a mid to high 15 but depending on the driver some run like a low 15. but the 3100 has 150hp just like the 2.4 but something like 20 more foot pounds (170)

i was thinking the 3 liter one for some reason my cousin has one thats why i siad its fast the b18 hatch will own the other two :icon16:

I'd go with the GA to beat the other two if it was the 3.4 V6, but I'd say this is a toss up between the Grand Am and the HB.

That's why I said it would be a toss up between your car and the HB.

It's the same motor that used to be in my old 1990 Beretta GTZ. 2.3-liter, 4-cylinders, 180HP/160ft-lbs TQ. All of this in a 2800-lb car.

Here's what it looks like:
http://www.sunbeamalpine.org/feature/back_issues_99/sep_99/quad4.gif

It also had direct-ignition, or DIS (http://autorepair.about.com/cs/generalinfo/l/bldef_159.htm?terms=direct+ignition) (Distributorless Ignition System).

I have NO idea how this motor died-out, and why it didn't pass-on to the Beretta's spiritual successor, the Cavalier. Cav Z24's had a version of the QUAD, but it only put-out 150HP/150TQ.

Anyhow, here's a dyno-graph of a stock GTZ:

http://www.beretta.net/behind_the_wheel/dyno_results.htm

Hope you realize that this motor came-out in 1988. From CHEVROLET.

Wow....what made for such high output? I mean 2.3 liters is alot, but still-high com. ratio or something?

High compression with relatively high revs.

It would be to much of a pain, id have to switch to OBDI, then id probably lose my power steering and it wouldnt really be worth it. Im going to make my LD9 an HO (kinda), doing the HO manifold swap, going to put on an intake came from a 95 quad, and exhuast cam from a 90-94 quad. for about $200 that isnt bad, and ill probably run a mid to low 15 1/4 mile. compared to a mid to low 16. But really the LD9 is still a quad4 GM just changed the name to TWIN CAM.

Yeah, you're right. Does the LD9 have that power-robbing balance-shaft also?

I know some buildups for a Cav Z24 include removing that balance-shaft, which in essence restores the 30-or-so HP that it robbed rom the motor's HO configuration.

Yea, it has that on it I believe.
