Well my Check engine light (cel) cam on Sunday. I had the local Autozone check the codes at got the following
P0733- An incorrect gear ratio condition in 3rd gear
P0325- A malfunction exits in the electrical circuit for the knock sensor 1
P0120- I malfunction exist in the electrical circuit for the Throttle Position Sensor
Then there are two others that do no show a fault code in the reader, i was told the proble with the two that are not listed are not damaged yet.
What the Ye!! Just happend to this van. I bought about two weeks ago and have driven 345 miles to date and then I get all these codes. Maybe someone can explain how this is hurting my gas milage since i had to spend $60 dollars to get that many miles.

First off the TPS uses it's measurements to determine how much fuel to give the engine(it tries to figure out if you are at idle or otherwise)..that particularly is probably your culprit...check Haynes to see how to check it
The knock sensor is there to detect you are detonating and signals to retard your timing so that you can burn fuel more efficiently(also check Haynes)...I'm thinking this is a secondary problem caused by the TPS fault..(be sure you check the subharness for any corrosion, that may be a problem)
The other one is a tranny code, I wouldn't be able to tell you but I don't think that would be causing a fuel consumption problems......

That tranny code may be a bunch of things like bad solenoids....the shifting is controlled by the tranny's own computer plus the cars main computer, but I know that the tranny computer gets signals from the TPS also...so I'm thinking it's your TPS the main concern

Does anyone have a TPS sensor for sale. I have checked and they are over $100 new.Tranny has a grinding sound like when its slipping but only when you have the wheel turned 30 degrees or so.
Thanks for the replies keep em coming

Just changed the TPS sensor and so far so good ont he gas mileage. I will be driving about 60 miles tomorrow so I will see if it helped. I am also going to change the front O2 sensor based on a second CEL reading that found it to be the a problem. I think the first test was mis read and the codes got mixed up, my regular mechanic got back today and ran the test and it only showed the O2 sensor as being bad no more tranny code or knock sensor.

Good to hear, hope everything goes well!

Well it only helped to control the idle surging but the gas consumption is still there. The car is also a bit out of timing cause it still feels a bit hard shifting fron N to D or R. I had the CEL cleared so I am waiting for it to come back on and see what it says.

check for fuel pressure if no CEL comes up and check if fuel presure regulator is bad........

BTW, did you ever get that rumbling noise when turning fixed.? was it the CV joint/driveaxles?

I have a 95 Villager with 118k miles and still has the original O2 sensor, these rarely go out and I know If a mechanic needs a buck or two thats the easiest thing to blame..Did he give you the old one back?
Does the one he changed look like a new one? :evillol:

The o2 sensor I changed myself and it was black like a bad sparkplug.
The CEL indicated the o2 was bad so i changed it. They can go for years but only if you use premium gas. I have no previous history so I did what I had too.
The rattling, grinding etc is still there. I have not had that looked at thoroughly. I belive it can be a bad cv or axle bearing. My mechanic tells me that is could be the differential in the tranny. I also made a mistake it happens when you turn left but the sound is from the right wheel.
I am totally dissapointed in this van. Having had b4 with 12000 miles with no problems I feel that I have purchased a LEMON. I am vey happy with its cosmetic condition. If I can get the fuel problem solved I would be extremly happy since this is in my opinon the biggest problem with gas at $2 a gallon in NYC. I am currently getting only 165 miles to the tank with a mix of 40 highway per tank and 100 city per tank.
Someone please help If this doesn't get fixed by the time the tittle comes its off to the AUCTION for the next buyer to worry about.

Update
I had the dealer look at the car since the CEL was back. The replaced the TPS again with a dealer part and did an emission cleaning. They told me I also had a leak in the exhaust gaskets upper and lower. They also said I needed a knock sensor. I had the Tps and the emision cleaning done. The dealer is a rip off they wanted $1000 for the gskets and the knock sensor. The gaskets can be changed during the knock sensor replacement but thats how they work. I am having a local repair shop replace the knock sensor with a ford part to avoid problems and the gaskets for around 250 in labor plus parts.
The van is ok and the tranny is just fine now.
