Prelude/Integ/RSX replacements...

is it just me, or do people just not listen?! Where is everyone getting their wrong information from? It's amazing how many people post/ask bout the prelude replacements, and also claim that the RSX is the prelude replacement....where the hell did they get that from?

The RSX was NEVER a replacement for the prelude....it was a replacement for the integra, from day one! They look like integras and are Acura, not Honda (and I know that Acura is made by Honda). Yet people still think that the RSX is replacing the prelude....listen and learn, RSX = New Integra.....and I would still rather have an ITR over the new RSX Type S!

The RSX are ugly....mix between Integra, Echo, Camry, and Civic. From the side, still looks like an Integ, but taller and narrower like the echo ( :confused: - is it just me, or do echos look like the driver slammed on the brakes and the car got stuck?!) Tailights look like Camrys (they don't look bad, but the headlights need to be changed) Boxier and more economical like the new civics.

I like the newer engines, but I still like the older integs better...I hear that they drive slower than ITRs too (RSX Type S). So, RSX=new integ, not new prelude. Does anyone even have a link to a site or something that discusses the prelude/accord theory?! that would make more sense than the RSX/prelude....so, quit spreading BS an educate yourself. Sorry bout the long rant, but ignorance bothers me on something so simple/previously discussed.

preludes have always been built on modified accord chassis.

integras are built on modified civic chassis.

the S2000 and Accord Coupe killed the Prelude, as the Prelude no longer has a niche in the Honda lineup...
Accord Coupe=luxurious, semi-powerful coupe
S2000=pure handling
Prelude=luxurious, pure handling

the RSX is called the Integra in Japan for a reason... cuz it's an Integra. Honda of America only wanted to help the teg match the new letter/number name lineup for Acura (CL, TL, RL, NSX, MDX, RSX...), so they changed the name.

the Prelude has been displaced by the Accord Coupe... remember, there wasnt an Accord Coupe when the Prelude came out... it filled the niche. now the niche has been filled by the Accord.

hopefully Honda will bring the Prelude back in the future as the handling machine it always has been, cuz Accords handle like a dry turd on ice.

The lude has to be my all time favoret HONDA! The design is soo sleek and awesome and it isent that bad stock. It is nothing to call a dream car, but boy is it a car. Nothing will replace the Prelude unless honda/acura come out with something that looks simlar to it. RSX-INTEGRA look like brothers and sisters.

another reason why the prelude was discontinued is that there is no practicality or reason for honda to offer two affordable sports coupes like the prelude and rsx. sales of the prelude were dismal, 11,000 units sold in 99 and less than 10,000 in 00. they would either have had to move the rsx upscale and increase the price (which they did not want to do). they didn't want a new prelude to cannabalize sales of the rsx. just another thought.

the accord coupe has been around for a hella long time, almost as long as the lude. the lude started way back, but so did the accord coupe. there have been accord coupes that i know of since the mid 80s, just like the lude. so they have coexisted well. the 88-91 lude and accord were around together, the 92-96 lude, and the 92-93 and 94-97 accord coupe were around together, the 97+lude and the 98+ accord coupe are together.

the only car that came into the pic is the s2k. that is what did it.

back to the rsx. the rsx type s is not meant to replace the itr, so it shouldnt be better than it. the type s is similar to the gsr, as there is an rsx type r in japan. so you should educate yourself on it.

also... there were alot of rumors and speculation when the lude was decidedly aging in its body style, and there was a new integra coming out. meaning, that if there was a new honda sports car coming out, it could go for both cars, b/c no one knew what the rsx would look like or would have in it, etc... and it is kinda similar to a lude... only available in two door, 200hp, 2liter motor, much higher than a conventional civic... similarities are there...

so... when no one knew what was going on and there was a car that sounded kinda like the lude and kinda like the teg, it made sense... especially since it was a new car... the civic hadn't entered the mix yet ...

so... now in hindsight, we all know it doesnt make sense. so... take a look back about a year or so, when we didnt know shiet, and see how it makes sense.

and, since no one knows if the accord is the official replacement, no one is really wrong in making the assumption, unless they claim it to be fact. so when we are all educated at the same time, the rumor mill will stop. comprende?

the accord coupe wasnt designed to ever fill the niche of the Prelude. the Prelude began in the 70's, while the accord coupe allowed folks to have some of the sportiness of a coupe while retaining more passenger space. the Accord coupe filled a gap within it's own lineup, so of course they coexsisted well...

but you missed my point... with the attributes of the Accord coupe being one of the Prelude's attributes (luxurious), and the addition of the S2000 having the Prelude's other attribute (handling), the Prelude lost it's own niche.

i understood what you meant, but i was just showing they coexist well... until the big bad s2k comes around... oh well... buy one of those... (psst... hey honda, make a hardtop)

it's available for 2002... you should read a magazine. the prior models can also be retrofitted for the hardtop at any Honda dealership for $150 or so.

i meant a real coupe though, like how the vette has a hardtop and a vert...

and i really dont dig the hardtop on an s2k... it would look better if it were designed on there... but that is just me... know what i'm sayin?

The Prelude is Hondas technology test bed(ie. 4ws, atts and a few other can't remember right now). The Accord has never been the threat to the Preludes performance. The RSX IS supposed to take up the slack of the Prelude. Yes it is the new integra but totally "grown up". Now don't get on me I sell Acuras and you see what I'm driving. The Prelude was cancelled because the Prelude wasn't selling and the Integra and the RSX are. The Prelude was the Integras main competion so look at it threw Hondas eyes. We are bringing a all new sport coupe to the market. Prelude isn't selling well and what does sell is going to take sales from the new car. I hate to see the Prelude go but as a Acura salesman I'm a little relieved because my job just got easier. Besides the new Accord will have a sportier version that will replace the Lude. Although i think getting rid of the name really sucks.

Uhhh... In Japan, it's still called the Integra. And yes, they are selling a new Integra Type-R.

but you knew what i meant!
