Your opinion: are CRX's ugly?

Thepeug
01-19-2004, 06:11 PM
I'm curious: why do so many people think that CRX's are ugly? Granted, the look is a bit dated and it's certainly different from other cars of its time, but I think the unique look is part of the attraction to the car. Everyone I talk to thinks it looks like a pile of shit. Most people probably buy CRX's becuase of 1) Lack of funds for a newer car, or 2) Its potential for performance. I know this is a bit of weird thread, but what do you guys think? Cult classic? Shit on wheels? Fast but ugly?

I think I wish I could find a CRX around here. I've been looking for a 90-91 in in good condition in the area for nearly a year.

i had 2. really dont car for the way the back looks.
i think with a nice body kit and wing they can look very good. but i had them because they are very light and can be made very fast.
now im more of the hatch type now.

I dont kno why people dont like them. I like them because there almost like if you like hondas its something you got to have owner.

I guess because the model was only made for a small amount of time people try to get there hands on them, but most people prolly dont like them because the design is older and hatchback type cars arent really something people favor I guess.

I dont know but CRXs' ROCK!!!!

i dunno i luv the way the crx looks. also the potential to be fast as well as handle outstandingly. i personaly have owned and built several crx's and have found them along with other 4g's to be easily built, and IMO obd0 rocks! IMO its gonna be a classic

I agree. I don't know why, though. The general populous has no automotive taste!

I have a 91 Hatch. And I love it. The only thing I dont like is that it sorta resembles a shoe, and all those damn windows. When my car is running good, I would take a hatch over a crx. But as soon as it messes up, i love crxs. I know it doesnt have anything to do with which model, but somehow it affects which body i like more.

i have never, ever heard anyone say crx's are ugly, i've heard slow, rust buckets, tin cans, girl cars ect.

no one has ever said a mint condition crx doesn't look nice to me.
the look is timeless. like a 442 or a mustang cobra, they will always stick out to me as the 'classic' honda. civic renissance- model X

I guess you don't pay attention to the VW croud? The RSX is a hatch back. So are all of the integras, besides for the sedans. The new civic Si is a hatch. Supra's are hatches. There are lots of cars that still have hatchbacks man. They just don't always look like a civic.

I dunno how appealing they are to me.. I don't really care too much for the way they look. Thats why I went with the hatch.

I think rexes are beautiful n unique, light n quite fast for it age. I have taken ppl in my crx n they always compliment the spped of the car but never once said its ugly.

well i love this car also, i fell in love with its shape when i first saw it, and when i got inside the first time, i had to own it, everything is perfectly placed as if they built the car around me. the ability to mod this thing to hell and back was another plus.

only bad things said about my crx were that it looked like a matchbox car.

I think the CRX looks awesome. Couldn't get one though because my parents said the car had to at least have 4 seats. I have had my hatch for 3 years, and would trade it for nothing (except a CRX or hatch in better condition). I'm just glad Honda named the Del Sol as it was, instead of giving it the CRX designation. As for the rice discussion....who cares....if you wanna laugh at someone for having a body kit and a wing go for it.....because there are people that are going to laugh at others for spending $$$ on a JDM front end (or basically any mod you choose to do). Heck, alot of people (who arent into cars) wonder why most people mod a car in the first place.

S2000? Unless you count Spoon's new fastback hardtop, which would technically make it a hatch.

No kidding. I've been looking for four months, and still haven't found a decent one. The ones that ARE in good shape are way out of my price range; I found a beautiful red HF the other day that had had offers as high as $9500. Quite frustrating.

only bad things said about my crx were that it looked like a matchbox car.

Aside from 'ugly,' I've also heard "It looks a freaking go-kart." That's supposed to be an insult, but considering that it handles like one, I'd say 'go-kart' is a fairly accurate description.
Also, sorry about the multiple posts. I can't figure out how to include all quoted phrases into a single new post. Any help?

just 2 let u know, older cabrios arent exactly hatchbacks,
they have a little like 2 foot by 3 and 1/2 foot door that opens on the back, i wouldnt classify it as a hatch exactly

I used to have a '90 CRX Si, red. Great gas mileage, decent performance for stock. I just sold it 2 years ago, and it was a rare one that was rust free. Only couple rock chips in hood and couple small door dings, but no rust around the rear wheel openings. Interior was perfect shape. But, I spent more money repairing the mechanics on that things than any of my 6 other GM cars I've had combined. 2 distributers, igniter, coil, wheel bearings, clutch, 3 sets of axles, which I found out after I sold it to a friend for $2k, that the diff was busted. Plus the maintenance itemsA month after I sold to him the diff locked up pulling into his driveway. I had a spare engine and trans that I gave to him. He fixed it, then about a month after that he came out of the mall, and found it underneath an S10 blazer. I guess it was raining, and 2 ladies, one in an Astro and one in an Expedition were going to fast, hit each other, and pushed his CRX under the blazer. Insurance gave him $3700 for it, after he just bought it a couple months earlier from me for $2k. Either way, if I could find another one in as good exterior condition as the one I had I would buy it and swap the motor of course.

From what I hear, it's pretty rare to have lots of mechanical problems with a CRX. Most of the time, they're worry-free as long as they're well-maintained. It is a Honda, after all.

i've had nothing but regular wear and tear things go on my rex. plus the radiatior. which was only 200 bucks (cnd) and a little elbow greese anyway. other than that its just been tires and the battery, a few hoses busted. there so cheap to run, insure and so reliable, best car i ever owned

personally, i think that the crx is awesome. I think that it has very contemporary lines that make it look less like a fourteen-year old design, and more like a current model. I love the lines of the hood and fenders, and I don't even mind the flat rear deck. It handles great, it's super light, it's easy to insure, and it's good on gas, what else can anyone want? In my opinion, anyone who clowns on the CRX is just jealous that they don't have one, and that they're driving some POS domestic!!

ps girlsrace2, where are you in ohio? I'm in Louisville, KY...

Ok nobody flame me but I think stock CRX's are ugly. Only body kits I like are the Wings West and the Black Widow (Which i'll be ordering soon). I think they're good being light and everything and totally versatile. I just dont like the stock look, if it wasnt for the flat back on the rear of the vehicle, ALOT of people would like them... Actually, you can build one of them yourselves. Theres an online site located in Australia that makes them, they put them on gokarts and everything else, they run on propane tanks, it didnt look too complicated to setup, looks like a big ass exhaust system though. They have kits for sale too.

Any proof thats real? Seems like yet another so called "Jet-car" which has the windows up, so no airflow to actually run into the jet.
