I suck at getting off the line!

Can anyone give me some hints/suggestions to a good start from a stop when racing?

I always either spin my tires too long, or take off to slow and my car bogs down.

My car isn't that fast anyway, but I always get a shitty take-off and then later on I catch up...and I've raced other Civics just like mine...they get off the line faster but I usually beat them in the end.

I practice all the time, but I just can't get that perfect take off like I used to do in my dad's Mustang!

Well your honda is a FWD and the mustang is a RWD...thats part of why your launches are worse. You just have to find that point in the RPMs where you can launch and not spin the tires all day, and also stay high enough in the RPMs to have VTEC in the entire time. Thats the sweet spot!

Also try releasing the clutch slower, feathering the clutch, so you only get minimal spin and get going in no time. You will never be off the line with a civic trust me...

theres your answer... ease into the clutch a little, don't just drop it like its hot!

what rpm do you launch at?

i know we have totally different cars, but i'll tell you how i launch so you might get an idea of how to launch yours.

i usually launch at 2.3-3k, depending on the conditions. but lets just say its a nice warm day out, and the road+my tires are all warmed up. I'd launch at say 2.5k, with a slight feather of the clutch, i let it out slow enough for the rpm's do dip slightly (200-300rpm or so) then i completely pop it out. My tires (and shitty ones at that) give a triple chirp kind of deal. Through all that chirping, i'd leave my throttle at the same position as when i launched, and right at the top of the third chirp, i floor it, as the tires have just gained full traction.

when i first started racing i just dumped the clutch and took off, thought i had it all good cuz i could take off at like 2000rpm and nto spin to much but then one day i had it at like 3000 rpm and let the clutch out kinda slow, slipping it and wow did it launch good, i can now launch my car at almost 4000 rpm on street tires with minimal spin of course it is not the best for your clutch, it will give you the lead you need to win. practice just having it at around 3000rpm and slipping it out and work your RPM's up until as high as you can without spinning to much

Wow..it helps alot by letting the clutch out slower...

I used to let the clutch out fast and floor it...and my car would jump fast..but then it would bog down and be all slow for a sec..

I found a pretty good spot around the 4k mark...I let it out a kinda slow until its half out, then i release it all the way and floor it...works great.

Not a stang...but it'll do! :D
