I am just looking for opinions ... its ok if u flame or watever ... really dont care but constructive is always better.
I am buying/building a car and just want to get some ideas or recommendations.
my first option is to buy this 1995 240sx shell for 1K and then for about 4500 ... that will get me the following:
SR20DET s13 motor redtop w/ tranny, ecu, and wiring harness
they will install the motor
S15 dash ripped off a front clip and installed on my 240sx
and the center console part where the radio and shifter is ... will be designed out of carbon fiber.
then it includes the s15 guage cluster and steering wheel
************
my second option is to buy a 300zx for about 2K and drop a JDM 300zx twin turbo 6spd motor. It includes ... tranny, ecu, wiring harness and rear assemnly. it also has twin intercoolers on it. its a redtop ... 1996 i beleive. and its going in a 1992??? 300zx
*************
my third option which i am getting a quote on is to get the 95 240sx shell and buy the sr20det s13 redtop motor like in the first one but instead of doing the dash ... do the following:
s15 front end conversion
s15 rear fenders
180sx type x?? taillights
drifter?? kit i believe
and then later i go get all of it shaved/smoothed and painted.
i dont know ... not sure what to do. wat do u think?

a) there is no such thing as a "drifter" kit. if there is, it is probably made by some cheap ricey company trying to sound big.
b) don't put S15 rear fenders on your car. please. an S15 front end conversion is far enough, and actually doesn't look too bad. putting S15 rear fenders on a car that wasn't designed for them just looks like shit. the car is an S14!!! NOT AN S15!! be happy with what you have and don't try to make the car look like something it is not and will never be.
c) do not put the 180SX Kouki lights (not type-x lights, all Kouki 180SX's had them, not just the type-x!!!) on an S14. it would look like shit.
d) there is no point to installing an S15 dash in your S14. it doesn't look much better. btw, did you just want the dash or RHD too? because if you got the dash...you'd HAVE to go RHD...there's no such thing as an LHD S15...
e) both of your 240SX options make you sound like a huge bandwagon jumper (you're doing everything popular to it just because it's popular, ie. S15 conversion, "drifter" kit, 180SX "type-X" lights (on an S14 i might add), Sr20DET just for the sake of saying you have it) and sound like they'd be show queens rather then track queens. plus you're spending more money on visual stuff to make the car look good rather then spend it on coil-overs, brakes, engine parts etc. which furthers my belief that these cars will never see a track.
if you're building a show car, may i suggest a Civic or some other car that wasn't designed for performance driving?
to turn an S14 into an S15-faced-180SX-tail-lighted show-queen zombie car that would never actually see the track is a crime in itself.
buy the 300ZX because it actually sounds like it has a chance of seeing a track where-as the other 2 sound like they'll never see a race-track in their lives.
if i'm wrong simply tell me and i'll retract my statement.
if i'm right, then don't bitch at me for my opinion. you asked for it, and i'll give it to you flat out: you sound like a poser.
again, if i'm wrong, prove it to me and i'll gleefully retract it, but going by the evidence i have so far, i think i'm pretty spot-on.
end transmission.

When he said drifter kit, he might have meant DRFT which does in fact make kits and is a pretty big ass company.
nexgen213, if you got the money, whatever floats your boat man. The WORST thing you can do to a car, is HALF ASS a job on it. If you're going to go show or go or both, put some effort into it.
I've seen some damn good custom work done to 240sx's be it audio, performance, or show setup. Only lately have people been figuring out RB26's can be swapped keeping twin turbo configuration. If the people who experimented with that listened to the idiots telling them what works and what doesn't without even trying it, they wouldn't have even thought about dropping that engine in. Let your imagination run wild with your money...
Some advice, just photoshop your ideas together and see how it looks. Maybe post it up here to get more opinions on it, but make sure that #1 (YOU) are happy with the results.
Civic's weren't meant for performance driving? Don't be naive and doubt all the great Hondas that are out there. 240sx's are pretty slow stock with the KA. A major idea of import tuning is taking what you have and making the most out of it. Civics... Tiburons... whatever.
Honestly, how often have you seen Type-X Tails (Haha, fine KOUKI) or S15 fronts on S13's or S14's in real life? Maybe it's just the shitty retirement area that I live around but I've only seen the tails on an S13 once or twice.

Civic's weren't meant for performance driving. go up to any of the engineers that designed the damn thing and i bet you not one of them will say it was designed for performance driving. i'll admit that it can be tuned into a performance machine (all the Spoon, Mugen, Top Fuel etc Hondas are nice), but it's original intention with 106hp and rolly-polly suspension was far from that.
and don't tear me apart because of what i said. he asked for opinions, so i gave him one. if he didn't want opinions, he should've just gone out and built the car instead of coming on here and asking for them. he asked, so i gave. i'm not going to tell him what he wants to hear. yes it's him who matters the most, and it's his money, but he didn't ask which car i thought HE would like best, he asked for opinions on what he should build. so i gave him mine.

If you're going to put a S15 front end on something, it should only be an S13 with 180sx tails or an S14 with the stock tails.
The first one is called a sil-eighty, and if you wanna look like a drifter, which it sounds like you do, then that's a really popular way to go. And you sound like you like popular, so there you have it.
The second option makes your 240 look like an S15, but it will still be left hand drive. But if you don't care about that, then go for that and "drop" in an SR20 and you will be right on your way to drifting.
But if you're going to make it a show car, then don't even bother with conversions. Show cars are expensive by definition, so you might as well just buy an S15 and put your drifterx body kit on it and all that. APC wings help too. A real S15 will win you alot more trophies than a converted car.
And Civics were meant to be grocery-getters, period. They can be made to go fast, just like anything else, but they were DESIGNED to be what most people use them for; reliable and economic transportation.

thnx for all the input .... i like the "light" we shine on the issue :-p.
i really am not going for anything big ... i just want to design something that suits me financially and also expresses me. i am not designing a show car because its a daily drive and im not building a track car because ... again its a daily driver. i just want to design a little of both .... and again they will look good no matter wat. but i like having projects like this. and if u think i am a poser because i simply like wat i think looks good .... then no matter. if i wanted to do something popular then why didnt i say get the c west front bumper and go with the silvia blue paint and a veilside touring wing and 19x10 chromed out wheels with spinners and 10 12" JL w7s ... :-p.
i simply do wat i like and i love all of the options i have i just need a second opinion. thnx for the input tho

my opinion is, if you are referring to the drft body kit, then i agree with it. I believe that it is one of the best looking kits available for the S14. As far as the engine, get a S14 SR20, not a S13 SR20. It has a little bit more horsepower better turbo and Variable Valve Timing among other things. And as always suspension upgrades are always a great idea. I personally woulnt go with anything other than Full Dampers (no coil-over conversion bullshit) but I am looking to spend some time on the track when my car is ready for it. Also if its a daily driver I would just try to make it as comfortable and non-problemed (<-made up word) as possible. I want to turbo my S14 but I drive at least 500 miles a week in it, so that makes me kind of weary of doing it. Ill just have to stockpile KA24's, in case I blow one up.

well i am leaning towards the 300z because it wont be such a money pit like wat i want to do to the 300 versus the 240sx :-p ....
but your right on the s14 but i cant seem to find s14 engines. all i have right now on the market is e s13 engines ... 2 of them are redtops and 1 is a blacktop with an aftermarket ecu and then like 4 s15 engines which i just might have enough money for :-p ... but again i am leaning towards the 300z because i'll just focus on the engine n not so much the body like the 240sx.
again thnx ... also i have a KA24 for sale already turbo charged. i'll take a pic of it ... and post it

Yeah Iketani, I find all that "Drifter" style body kit shit all too humurous. I didn't know there was a certain style of bumper drifters used, they must be the cool ones LOL. If you look in mags at body kit advertisements you will see a drift style bumper, one particular has it listed on a cavalier or something hehe....
The Funniest thing is about is that a real drift thing haha, when I see videos of cars dirfting in japan 90% of them aren't too pretty. You mostly see dented up S chassis cars, bashed in AE86's, and ragged looking 2nd Gen Rx7's.......
I hate how these people think they are gonna drift with cool looking parts and shit LOL, first off learn how to drift first, go out and practice some tail sliding and control. Eventually stuff will get F'd up. You will be mad you broke your 3k silvia s15 conversion front end and probably cry like the ricer u r. In the end you shoulda spent that 3k on some suspension or chassis upgrades and it might have slammed into the guardrail at a better angle hehe.......

yea body mods are pretty much a waste... the closest thign to a body mod I would suggest would be to lower it with some nice coilovers or shocks and springs. then new wheels and tires, wheels no bigger than 17" unless you want an uncomfortable ride and end up breaking them if they aren't good quality ones. then you could always make it look good under the hood(and I'm not referring to chrome)

alright when i said the drifter kit .... i meant the drft kit ... excuse me for adding in an i ... i dont sit on my computer all day in the automotive forum :-p.
anyways its funny how we just keep going over the same shit over and over and over again ... if one person has to post it ... the next person has to post it just reworded :-p
the car is going to be a daily driver ... i dont hear drifting in daily driver. i may one day ... (when i get a different car) take it to the track and drift it but i am simply building me a fast ... nice looking ... daily driver car. so lets cut the bullshit about ricer & learning how to drift and bullshit like that.
as with calling me a ricer ... is it because i do wat i think looks good? or is it the fact that i am not going to use a street legal drag as a daily driver?
you people are too quick to jump to judgments ... if anything i am the complete oppostie of a ricer .... i've been driving a 2000 mustang v6 later swapped to a 99 gt engine but totaled. now i am buying me a new car ... thinking of going import and this is with the money i have from my car. :-p
im not bragging and i am not trying to pick a fight with ne one but just stating the obvious ... most of u guys judge too damn quick. not my fault tho
as iketani said

1995 240 sx w/ REDTOP?? what’s wrong with u?? Dude! Invest in the motor, more over don’t put an older model engine in a new car, I think that is just stupid. Instead of the show stuff, wings dash etc, invest in a strong engine that will last you.
Who cares if the car doses not look like an S15? All that mater that it moves like one!
I have an 89 fastback and S14 engine w/all the goodies, no kits or convergence just a 240sx that moves!!!
Also if u want to drift, get a limited slip, that’s a G right there!! (KAAZ) no gue LSD pleas that stuff gives up quick!
Anyways something to consider!!!

obviously you didn't see that he doesn't want a drift car, since he posted it right before you posted yours(hard to miss) but anyway, I'd say get the SR20DET if thats what you want, but yea I'd say try and find the S14 motor atleast, but first off I'd go for the S15 motor, but that will probably leave you no more money for other mods
personally I say just buy a $200 front bumper underspoiler, give it the 'ol sleepy eye look, and get the S15 motor
but if you want your car to look good you'll probably still want to lower it and get new wheels and tires, so maybe just get the S14 motor, its really up to you though

Heh so he did mean DRFT bumper. Yes, people do sell shitty kits out there by the names of "Drifter STYLE", but yeah, you people fucking assume too much. Almost every noob that posts here is attacked and accused as being a "ricer" and then you complain about how they ruin and waste your fucking cars by converting them into show-cars or drifting them into trees or how about jumping the "bandwagon", and bullshit like that. Leave them alone, it's their money. Stop hating, just cuz you can't afford anything. Last time I remembered, cars were sold to the PUBLIC, not who you think fucking deserves it. I've seen plenty of old dudes and chicks who probably didn't know the potential of the 240sx they were driving but at least the car has found some love.
NEXGEN, these guys probably didn't even know about the DRFT kit thats out, so they assumed something else. Just make sure you have money for an engine rebuild should the unthinkable happen, or put money into a reliable, low-mileage engine, whichever chassis it might have come out. Remember people, just because a car is newer, doesn't necessarily mean it is better. It's all about how well the car was taken care of during its life. Maybe a few technological improvements like VVT here and there, but not much.
BTW I think the 240sx looks damn good stock (all generations), but there's nothing wrong with trying to make it look better (in the owner's eyes). Those hardcore drifters and draggers usually keep the stock look cuz they couldn't care less about their car's appearance as long as it eats everything up on and including the road. Then there's people who don't feel like spending the time or money on keeping their car running the 1/4 or twisties. There's your no-go, all show crowd. And of course there's the people in between who want a little of both worlds. A decent system, some power to embarrass the richboy racers... pretty much daily driving :) Cars come in all flavors. Deal with it.
Ahem, now back on topic... why don't you try KA-T? You can get decent, reliable power on relatively low boost and save some money. Check out all your options man.

Tnx for calling me out soyo! I still think that what I said has solid ground!
Anyways, decide on what the heck you want, no one can tell you what is right for you. My car is a daily driver that doesn’t stand out at all. If you want a nice car, hell do all of the obvious thing, TV’s, mad sounds, nice rims…etc.
Here is what I think, make up your mind, and if you have enough recourses then everything is possible!!
Ps: KA-T$, sure, it some what less played out.

yea i am sort of making up my mind but when there are LOTS of options and u love them all ... wat r u gunna do? .... i just figured i would get some opinions.
i see ur turbo KA idea and i was talking to my friend at teaworks and hes got a turbo KA and hes pulling like 400 out of it with stock internals ...
as with the s13 redtop ... its already P&P and has a 2.2 stroke. the blacktop just has n aftermarket ecu. and the s15 for sale ... well the front clip has the VVT. i am thinking about getting that one. although i have been reading up on dropping a VG30DETT into a 240sx :-p ... and then there is a RB26DETT but ... too much of a conversion for that engine.
just basicly ... i have tons of options and im looking at getting something that i am am not going to go overboard on because i tend to do that :-\ ... its a disease.
so im going with 1991 Nissan 300zx w/ JDM 1996 VG30DETT redtop. its a powerful engine ... also leaves me plenty of cash to deck the engine out. kuz that right there w/ the engine will cost ..... roughly 4800 and i have about 7. so the rest of that can just let me .... make sure the engine runs perfectly well.
thnx for the advice guys ... also if u happen to live in or around houston ... i have lots of engines for sale .... everything from a B18c5 to an RB26DeTT. (gotta make more money some how :-p) ... thnx n e ways. oh and if u still want the pics i'll pop them up if u got a place to upload them :-p

There's your no-go, all show crowd. so how do you know he didn't just see all of us saying "did you mean DRFT bumper? cause 'drifter' bumpers are gay!" and changed his wording so that he didn't look bad? who's assuming now? neither of us can be sure because neither of us are him, so just cut that argument out.
oh, and newsflash asshole, he ASKED for my opinion so i GAVE it to him. last time i checked, i was living in a FREE part of the world, so i'm allowed to post whatever the fuck i want. if i don't want him to do the mods he's listed, then i'll say so without hesitation because he asked for my opinion! if he didn't want to hear my opinion, then he should've just gone and built the damn car instead of posting this useless thread.
i know it's his money, and i know that he should do what he wants to his car, but he did ask for my opinion. i have no doubts about the guys intentions, but look at the mods he's posted! EVERYthing he posted is a popular trend in 240SX-dom. S15 conversion, SR20DET, 180SX Kouki lights...all of them are popular and all of them are worshipped by ricers who have absolutely no idea what they are, but know they're popular. putting all of these mods onto an S14 just helps to prove that...you can't honestly tell me that Kouki lights on an S14 would look good. with the shape of it's trunk, there's no way. i've seen S14 tail-lights on a 180SX, which looked good, but this has no chance of looking any sort of decent. by the sounds of his original post, he was merely including them because it was a popular mod and he wanted to sound big for wanting them.
but this thread is getting ever more pointless with every word i type.
