hey guys i got a 91 1.8 and we just washed the engine bay 2 days ago. at first it started and ran fine but then it cut off about 5 min later. ive taken the distributor off and checked to see if there was water in it wich turned out none. i pulled #4 spark plug wire and put my spark tester on and no spark. only thing ive tried so far was resetting the computer with no luck. any ideas?

Ive seen that on a couple of DSM sites.. I think it was DSMtalk if you want to do a search about it... Had to do with the getting the spark plugs went if i recall... Guy was saying that you should cover them and just not to even get any water near that section.

I saw a thread on this a few days ago. i think 95gsxracer said that when you wash the engine bay, these rubber seals dry up and let water in. ill search it and find his exact quote.

89turbo944- "Have you washed the engine bay latley cause many owners have problems with their CAS right after washing their engine bay. This is because the rubber gaskets on the CAS housing can dry up over time, and allow water (or steam) inside the sensor. Once water gets in to the sensor it is usually wrecked. Without the CAS, the ECU does not know when to fire the injectors or plugs, and the engine can not run. For this reason most people cover the CAS prior to washing the engine, and take steps to keep steam out like "drive until dry" or opening the hood."

Ya i said that:)

Cool, ive been quoted:):)

But ya if your CAS gets water in it then you will not be able to start the car and mostliley you will need a new CAS.

Hope that isnt the case tho. But good luck.

get new wires and plugs just becasue you can then before taking old plugs out blow the spark plug hole out with air then blow the coil packs off and make sure that they are drw inside and out then put new plugs and wires on and hopefully it will run.
