Hey all. I was thinking of getting a 94-95 MIata and I was wondering if they are reliable cars. My friend said not to because they're a piece of crap...but I really like them. I saw one that was rear ended and the body panels where cracked like if they where made of plastic...are they safe cars?
There is a nice red one in a used car dealer and I really want to test drive it but I don't know where the trouble spots are...help me please!

A guy down the block from me has one and it's always in the shop, the electronics are a little sensitive.

My 92 or 99 are very reliable. They always start. My 92 needed a window regulator once & has a sucky OEM radio (now resolved) and my 99 had some leather cleaner spilled in the power window switch which caused a failure but thats it.

I own one and , yes, they are VERY reliable. If you dont believe me, just check consumer reports. Also if your intrested in a miata go to miataforum.com and join the club, youll get alot of good information there.

I have had my Miata since new July, 1989. Never been to a shop. I take care of it very well and she rarely has given me a problem. After 14 1/2 years, she is starting to show some wear and tear, but I think that is normal by now :iceslolan. I use her as a commute car so she has over 92, 000 miles. Hopefully, she's carry on for me another few years. See her pic :)

Your car is really cute, I like it a lot! The smiling mouth with the teeth is just awesome, it reminds me of those animated clay dudes; Wallace and Grommit from that movie "The wrong trousers". :smokin:

my last miata did a 1000 mile a week commute for a year and a half, plus 300 miles of twisties on sundays (got withdrawl symptoms on weekends after all the spirited commuting during the week lol)
anyway, in the 80k miles I did in 1.5 years here are all the probs I had.
heatshield midpipe came loose and rattled, (could have got caught on something liek freeway debris).
passenger side roof latch became a little loose and needed the sunvisor up to keep it locked.
no mechanical or electrical faults ever. and all the above were fixed for free under warranty.
Just bought a 2004 as I'll be doing a similar commute, well 75 miles each way with my next job. But the Miata is a VERY reliable car and incredibly fun to drive. the nimbleness of the car has gotten me out of a lot of hairy situations and allways makes me smile, as you don't have to drive fast to have fun.
you can take most junctions aroudn town without using the brakes and not breaking the speed limit :)
