I'm having trouble with Perrys Resin (http://www.perrysresin.com). I send in my payment on 11/12/03, and sometime during December I emailed him if he recieved it. The answer was "yes." Unfortunatly, I emailed him (Randy) several times asking about the status of my order, with no response. I'm getting fustrated, as to this day he still hasn't responded! Has anyone in the US have trouble ordering from him before? What should I do?
I'll email him again tonight, and let you know if he respondes.
Thanks.

This is quite common w/Randy. His products are great, but sometimes his service is slow and he's a bad communicator. You could try posting on the Hobby Heaven board, he reads that board and almost always responds to someone when they make a public post about his tardiness and lack of communication.

Apparently nobody over there thinks Randy should communicate to his customer's inquiries if he does good casting, and Hobby Heaven deleted the post because this site has links to his competitors. Oh well, I tried. The post itself was not posted by Malcolm, though he did join the fray later on.

When I first made my order I didn't expect it to take this long, so I was worried that something bad happened. But it seems this is how it usually works. I guess I can't do much but wait and see. I hope he'll follow through.

I am the one that posted the message on HH. Even though I am VERY regular on HH I dont think it was right that it was deleted just because he is a "nice guy" Personally business is business doesnt matter how nice you are if you dont get he job done and make your customers come back for more than you are a failure. This may sound harsh but......*tries to think of an excuse*...............ok i am blunt and this is how I conduct myself. :uhoh:

heh my only view on it is this .. if something says 6 to 8 weeks for delivery .. i want it on my doorstep no later then 8 weeks ... if he is making the parts to order .. (making them when they are ordered) .. and that is what is causing the delay then he should list it on the site ...
i have looked at his site in the past and considered ordering some stuff ... but everyone i have spoke with said a 2 to 3 month time between order placed and received is normal ... in that time i could make the part myself ;) ...
(is always looking for excuses to buy more tools and supplies)

I won some stuff from Perrys when i was on model car list. I won like 20 buck gift certificate of something like that.. It took him over a year to get me my stuff.. I ordered a set of wheels and a vette rollpan for fullsize chevy. He kept saying he didnt usually get orders by email. Thats why it took so long to get my stuff.. Whatever.. I have never ordered from or since. Even though theres alot of his stuff i want i wont order it from him. it sad it takes him so long that when ya finally get your stuff you dont really want it anymore. The wheels i tossed they were trash and the rollpan sits in my parts box. I personaly recommend all people to stay clear of him.. Later Rick S

I've heard this tale many time from people dealing with Perry's Resin. Randy Frost may be a great caster but he is a very poor person to do business with. Can't really offer any assistance to your plight Malcom, but it is a lesson to be learned for the rest of us. If you wish to purchase a Perry's Resin product make sure you do it via a third party, who have it in stock.
On the other hand anybody who acts with such distain towards his paying clients will not be getting any of my business.

I've received a response. Randy told me my order is going out this week. As for my emails, I suppose it's the email problems that he recieves but I'm glade he recieved my last email.
I'll let you know when the parts come in, and maybe take a few pictures too!

I've been on the model car list for at least 4 years now, and this is always the same experience I've heard from other customers over the years. Late, no email responses, claims he had "email problems" or whatever. Then someone pipes up and says "I met him at a show and he's a great guy, give him some time!" So let's see, he's late, can't get his stuff out in less than a year, has constant "email problems" yet here he is at model shows fully stocked and ready to take your money on the spot and you get your parts right away. Does this make any sense?
What irks me is that the bad experiences may reflect on resin casters in general. If someone's first experience was Perry's and was (most likely) disappointed, the next time they or a friend sees another resin site, they see "resin" and think "Oh man, I heard this takes almost a year, screw it."

I think part of the problem with Perry's is that he's a very high profile caster. Almost on the level of recognizability of Modelhaus, Mini Exotics, or Replica's and Miniatures Co. of Maryland.
Thing is, Modelhaus, Mini Exotics, and RMCoM are run as businesses, with employees, a payroll, and other such bits and pieces. Perry's is still cottage industry level. Which is a problem when you're trying to supply the same level of demand as the bigger companies.
It's not that I excuse being that far behind, but I do understand the situation.

i dont have a problem at all with someone running a business out of their house as a hobby .. which is what it sounds like his basically is ... tho it is prob larger scale then most hobby's ... but if someone is going to run it as a hobby ... they need to let others know that ...
i have never met this person at a show .. so i don't know on how well stocked he actually is .. if he is well stocked and just not computer / mail order savy .. then he needs to hire someone who is ...

Let me tell you about Perry's! I waited 2 years for a panoz model that I pre-paid for. Was always having troubles and it was a few weeks away. nothing.
Sent emails and nothing. Finally I got some hope and got a cheque refund for him.
Pretty bad service and I would stay away. Who cares if he is a (so-called) excellent caster?

Add me to the list of former Perry's customers, too. I ordered two pairs of tires from him and it took over nine months (and many emails) to finally get them. Like the earlier poster mentioned, stuff like that gives the rest of the industry a black eye. I think one of the things that irritates me the most is when someone mentions it on a prominent message board and the "regulars" circle the wagons, like there's something wrong with the poster who reported the crappy service, instead of the supplier who provided dismal service.
If a resin caster (or any other businessperson, for that matter) takes a customer's money, knowing full well that he cannot deliver the product within a reasonable amount of time, and he doesn't inform the customer of this before taking his money, he SHOULD NOT be in business. Period.
It's a fact that Randy makes some really nice stuff, but I sure won't order it from him. There are several other places to buy Perry's resin, vendors who will be honest with you when they take your money. I had one tell me recently that he could be a rich man if he could get Frost to deliver when he said he would.

Thanks for the heads up guys, another lesson that I WONT have to leanr the hard way. I have thought about ordering from perrysresin several times, but because I am in canada, I decided I would buy quite a few products at once, but have never found everything I wanted.
You all are saying you can buy the products through other vendors/companies etc.. are there online shops that I can find these products?

I ordered two cars from Randy last August. After five months and many emails I have still not received what I ordered. I will be suprised if I ever see my cars. I am out $70 and I would encourage everyone not to order from Perry's Resin; chances are you will never see your mercdhandise.

Well I know nothing of him: but recently I got from a great AF member his 333. The job they done on the model's engineering, tooling and casting is awesome, and think this model's 10 YO. Not to mean the shape, well captured.

On 1/5/2010 I mailed a check with a completed order form for four model kits listed in Perry’s Resin online catalog (1981 Chevy Malibu 2dr, 1981 Malibu wagon, 1968 Buick GSX, 1975 Maverick 4dr). Months went by and the check remained uncashed. Then, in early May 2010, I received a message on my answering machine from Mr. Frost telling me he just found my order, didn’t know where it has been all these months and will be cashing the check and filling my order soon. On 5/5/2010 the check was cashed. In July of 2010 I still hadn’t received anything and called Mr. Frost inquiring about the status of my order. He said he didn’t know off the top of his head because his resin casting equipment was at home, but he hoped to move it to his hobby shop to better serve his resin casting business. He took my name and phone number and said he’d call me the next day. I never received a call. Early September of 2010 I called again and Mr. Frost told me he had just one more part to cast to complete my order, I should expect it soon.
Out of frustration and now knowing the reputation of Perry’s (waits of over a year are typical) based on online research, I didn’t contact Mr. Frost again until early 2011. I wrote an email explaining the situation and requesting a response, which I re-sent about every other week, the last one being May 2011. I sent a total of five emails over a few months and thought persistence would pay off, but I received no responses.
I then called Mr.Frost twice in June 2011. The first time he told me he moved his casting operation to his hobby shop and my order is almost done, the second time he told me it’s done and packaged up but due to the Canadian postal strike he couldn’t send it.
The postal strike ended June 27, 2011, and even taking into account how backed up the postal service was due to the strike, I thought I should have my order by late July. I again called Mr. Frost on 7/26/2011. He told me he mailed it the second week of July and another order he shipped to a location near me had been received, so expect it anytime.
It is now August 30, 2011, and I have still received nothing. Every call between Mr. Frost and myself has been friendly and polite, but obviously has gotten me nowhere. My e-mails go unanswered. I don’t know what else I can do. I just want the merchandise I paid for well over a year ago.
That's my Perry's Resin nightmare.
Still want to order from him?

Since I publicly complained about Perry’s a while ago, I thought it was only fair I publicly say that everything was resolved. I finally got my order on Oct. 7th. It was postmarked Sept 29th, FYI. So much for the customs excuse. All the models were excellent, both the masters they were made from and the resin workmanship. That being said, I can’t say I’d recommend Perry’s due to the year and a half wait and lack of communication, but if you can get them from a third party, I’d definitely go for it.
