if you misplaced the cdrom drive how are you going to reinstall xp..
there are ways to work around not having a cd drive but easiest thing would be to find that drive

For the moment just try to let it to auto find the network driver, as most of the time XP don't delete anything unless it have to or force to (pros and cons in such method).
If not, try to find your cd rom drive, if not just buy a new one, its ralatively cheap nowadays (over here its like 25 bucks for a lite-on or lg, etc) so its fairly cheap (conversion rate is 70-80 US cents to 1 aussie dollar).

You're trying to install a burned copy of XP? If its pirated software, you shouldn't be using it in the first place.

Yea technically we can't provide you any help or discuss any illegal software.

You say Fuck XP, yet you are trying to install from a burned CD. Who is to say that you have a good burned copy of XP, or that your equipment is not faulty. :slap:

I make copies of CDs I own all the time. That way the originals don't get scratched. My uncle lost his win98 disks and I had to reformat. Was I going to shell out 10 bucks and wait a week to get new CDs? Hell no. Download win98 on shazaa, install and use his original serial.. tada now its legal.

Theres a difference between making a legal copy of software you own and using "pirated software". Downloading "pirated software" and using a serial number that you do not own would be "illegal" which is the case in this situation if it is "pirated software" as it seems to be.

Fuck XP, indeed. I don't even use it one my computer, it's not worth the waste of time, plus I can't play my old school DOS games on XP(Descent, Quake, Doom) on XP, and that's just plain dumb.

Backwards compatibility only goes so far. I'm glad Microsoft doesn't support those old DOS applications. There's enough bloat in the operating system just to cover windows 16 bit applications.

Of all the operating systems, XP is the best one, in my opinion, it is the most stable and has some nice features. If you really want to play older games like that, look around online, updtaed versions of those games can most liekly, be found. There are some really nice remakes of Doom out there, where you can jump and its graphics has been updated so it looks better as well. I dont remember the name of it, as it isnt Doom, and it bundles the different doom's together. It has the Doom gameplay, but is brought closer to current games, and it plays in windows.

You can just tell XP to run the game in "DOS" mode. Even though it is only an emulated version of DOS it should work.
Also, as for the exclamation mark by your NIC, find out what kind it is, go to your friends house, google the name of your nic along with the words download driver... and walah! save it to disk, if it fits, install the driver through device manager on your computer.
You can also try to disable the NIC and then enable, you could also take it out, boot your computer, shut down your computer reinstall it, reboot your computer and hope XP finds it.
Good luck, but even if you get it to work, you'll never get updates from Microsoft, which are kind of crucial as there are numerous holes in the OS, especially XP which hasn't been "Gold certified" yet, that is if it is truly pirated.
