I have a 94 grand prix and I want to hook up a "system" in it. I want to put subs and an amp in. Can I hook up subs and an amp to my stock cd player??? Or do I have to buy an aftermarket cd player??? Any help is extremely apprecieated.

I would say that an aftermarket CD player is safer. OEM equipment comes coupled all together and to modify it could mean bad sound cuality. My humble opinion

well i would have to agree with the quality of getting an aftermarket deck, but it is possible to wire it up to your existing cdplayer there is an adapter that you can buy at bestbuy or where ever that comes with directions on how to do it, we used it in my friends blazer and it works fine... but an aftermarked deck sounds so much better and im happy with my pioneer i bought, im runnin 2 12 '' volfenhag subs and a 1600 watt amp sounds great. Like i said it is possible but i dont recomend it

I'm trying to find subs to hook up to my stock cd player, because i don't think aftermarket ones look as nice as the stock one does. I know that Crutchfield carries some. It probably won't sound as good, but I'm not looking for the big loud ones, just to add detail to the music.

I agree that the aftermarket ones in my opinion are not as nice looking when installed. So I am just going to buy the adapter JGTP94 recommended. Thanks for all the help

You can buy an adapter at radio shack that will allow you to run the needed RCA cables to hook up and amp and subs, however you factory head unit doesnt really have the power needed to get the sound quality most people installing amps and subs are looking for. Your factory head unit only allows so much power to be run through it, and has limitations on the volume controls, bass settings and treble. If you don't like the aftermarket head units that are available then maybe your not looking hard enough I know there are plenty of installs that look a hell of a lot better then the factory. I took mine out a week after I bought my gp, and I havent regreted it one bit, right now I'm pushing a pioneer deck with a 1800 watt fosgate amp, 1200 watt JVC amp, and 2-10" alpine series r's and 2-12" alpine series e's, and lots and lots of dynomat

The only problem is I am not looking for like a 2000 watt system. I just wanted to give my music a little boost. About 600-800 watts. Do you think my stock radio will handle about 600-800 watts????? Thanks

if i was you i would go talk to a local stereo shop. i recently installed 2 15" comp vr's in the back of my friends blazer with one of those crossovers that allows you to keep the stock head unit. really the only problem that i found with it is that you a little sound quality from the sub's(tends to sound a little muffled). it is also hard to eliminate all the base from the mid's to make them sound clearer after all that is what aftermarket stereo is all about a clean sound. but since you want to keep your stock deck i would reccomend looking into an alpine crossover to hook into the rear mids and a JL 250 watt amp and some 10" JL w0 subwoofers. you could go with 12's but since you arent getting into a serious stereo i wouldnt invest the extra money.
PS: amps are generally sold at 1 dollar per watt of rated RMS power if you find an 1800 watt amp for 300 bucks it more then likely wont put out 1800 watts. you will be impressed with the JL 250 should you decide to get it. hope my advice is some help.
