I have a 99 4wd 4Runner, bought less than 2 months ago. Every time I fill it up, gas fumes fill the rear cargpo area. Has anyone had this type of problem and how'd ya fix it. I've taken the rear plastic off and no signs of gas leaking into vehicle.

Bring it in to a dealer and have them look at it. This is not normal and is definitely a potential problem!

It should be under warranty...and if not, I believe they are still required by law to fix it for free because it is a potential fatal hazard

Yes, I think that is true.

Thanks!! I fiddled with the gasket between the inside and outside and redid the press ring and I haven't noticed it anymore. But I have also been using the cargo cover , so it might be keeping the fumes down low until they escape. I'll try it without the cover and see what happens. If it still does it , I'll definitely check in with toyota about fixxing it for free. Thanks again.

If the dealer won't do it, then I would send a letter to Toyota themselves. Tell them it is infact a hazard, and something should be done. Besides, the vehicle isn't that old. How many miles do you have on it?
