You'll need to replace the amp under your console. There are a few that work, but specifically 15199992 will do the trick. It runs about $40-100 when on eBay or around $350 at GMpartsDirect.com
Hope this helps! Now, about that money :) How's free?

Won't he ideally need the separate 6-disc CD changer also? He did state that he previously had the in-dash 6-disc head unit, and hadn't mentioned anything about having the additional changer...unless he doesn't mind losing the nav functionality while listening to CDs...

Many people don't mind losing the ability to have a 6disc, and it's a lot more work to add one in a Silverado, his best bet would be an aftermarket one.
If he has xm radio, he may not care about cd's at all...

True; I guess I should have clarified my CD changer comment by saying that the issue was more along the lines of whether he'd have the ability to listen to CDs while using the nav function at the same time if he didn't have some sort of external CD player. I mean, w/o an additional CD player (either aftermarket or external factory 6-disc changer) he could use the nav or listen to CDs via the single-disc nav head unit...but would not be able to do both at the same time.
