I'm new to this newsgroup - looks good! I'm replacing the starter on the above mentioned car. I'm attacking it from below. Seems difficult. Looks like a brace to remove, maybe the oil filter. Am I approaching this wrong. Can I get to it from above?

From underneath you need to take a brace off that is coonected to the manifild and the engine block. the starter is behind this brace. Not difficult although awkward. Youll need 12mm sockets and some long extensions.
While there remove the wires from the started and the obvious bottom bolt on the started (14mm).
This is the trick. To get the top bolt on the starter you need to get at it from the top of the engine. You'll need to remove some stuff to get at it easily. Remove the top of the air filter housing including the black thing that's attached. take off the large rubber hose from the throttle body to the air flow meter. That opens it up nicely and it's not hard to do. The second bolt goes into the starter from this side. Look down where the starter is and you'll seea bolt with a wire connected to it. This is the second bolt for the starter. Take that out and your home free.
Crawl back underneath and take out the starter from below.

it's SO much easier to just remove the starter from the top. you can reach both bolts, just take off the intake tube at the throttle body.

I'm sure your right. Taking the brace off underneath was a hassle. Searching for that top bolt took me a while!

did you take a look from the bottom. Pretty straight forward as i recall. i don't have that car any longer otherwise I'd take a picture for you.
