Do you want a 1g or 2g? With 5 grand, you're gonna struggle to find a 2g turbo. The gsx is awd, and is considered "safer" because of it... so that will help on insurance. Which will be very important since you're only 16. The gs-t though, will be easier to find, and probably cheeper. Either way, You're gonna struggle to pull off a turbo with only 5 grand. Don't forget about your insurance payments. You're gonna get raped! Either way, both are good. Good luck. Use those last 4 months to save your pennies, and beg all your relatives for help when bday card time comes! Good luck finding a car and early welcome to dsm!

2Gs are almost 10yrs old, you can find a GSX for 5K
easier to find if you're up north

im with import2nr99... unless ur parents are pickin up the insureance bill and they are understanding people when it comes to money spent.. having the age 16 and the word turbo appear in the same sentence will make any insurence company get an ear to ear grin... i would actually suggest a non-turbo model to start off with.. the gs with a 5 speed is still somewhat stout to start with.. and there are plenty of bolt ons to satify that need for speed. plus 2.0 non turbo 2nd gen eclipse's are everywere... so chances are that 5k will go farther with gas money to spare... but if ur bent on a turbo model.. defineatly search for a gsx for the insurance purposes plus the fact that awd helps you off the line.. although im sure for a 16 year old looking for a turbo eclipse thats the last thing on your mind....

Insurance should cost somewhere between 2,800 - 3,500 a year, or atleast thats what i've heard. And that amount is cut drasticly if u take "Driver Ed" and do "Behind the Wheel Training" thats what i did and it cut my insurance down ALOT.

woah 5 grand? wish i had that much money when i was turning 16 ;) instead a got a ford escort... 1989 at that... go with something simple, for a new driver something with turbo or a suped up engine might be a little too overwhelming, and if its FWD you might freak out with the wheel torque if you drive it hard...

I got shafted with a 95 neon, and I thought it was good for the first month too.. Funny how I had a 420A in my first car and 4G63 on my second, and all I wanted was a GSX before I even turned 16.
Oh yeah, insurance for me is about 2200 dollars a year. Sucks, doesn't it? Well there goes my mod money. I could be running 12's by now.

yeah my first car was a lousy 100hp saturn.. talk about good times on steep hills... n e how i wanted to get a gsx or a gst at least.. but my cousin had this 96 gs 5 speed with 85k he paid 2500 for at a public auction or something.. so when he decided to sell it to get a down payment on a new spec v he offered it to me for the 2500 he had in it.. and wa la no turbo for me lmao

5 grand for a 2g turbo will be hard to find. Also there are little to no gsx's up north. The pa area has a ton more than up north. I would go with dsmtrader.com or autotrader.com. ebay would be a last resort because you really don't know the car that you are buying until you already bought it.

The vast majority of AWD DSMs seems to be in the north. Its just that people up here dont sell them :D I waited a good bit for my 95, but it was worth the wait. They are out there, you just have to find them. Sometimes you get lucky and poeple dont realize what they have...

if you are buying a used car you never "know" the car, untill you have had it for about a year. by then all the little bugs and problems usually show up. most of the time on ebay if you are truly serious about the car, you can email the seller with an offer and stipulation about getting to see the car before you buy it. most of the time if your offer is fair and your willing to put up the cash to get there, they will agree. dsmtrader and autotrader are a little easier to make offers on cars becuase you arent dealing with a auction timeline.
you shold be able to find a solid 1G GSX for around $2500-$3500 and that is for one that would be in awesome shape.

You should just buy a talon tsi awd. Its the exact same car, about 4500 for a 96, i think? Insurance will be cheaper and there everywhere. If you go on autotrader, you will find alot more than gsx'.
Same car diff body.
I own both, Im selling my gsx.
