I have a 98 Lexus that has 25k miles and is in show room condition except for the headlights. checked the price of new replacements that
was a shock so I have tried different waxes and polishes but just didn't
give the results like I wanted. I also tried a restoration kit from ebay for
$10.95 and made them worse. I was on my way to work a couple of weeks ago and seen a car with a ad on the back about clearing up
headlights so I called and made an appoitment. I don't know what this
guy is using but my headlights are crystal clear and he gave me a 2 year
warranty. Took him about 30 min. to do and the results were amazing
and saved me several hundred dollars it was very inpressive. He goes by
the Headlite Doctor and told me he was about to have do it yourself kits
available soon will let you'all know when he will have them.

I used 800 grit wet/dry sandpaper first on the lenses with water! Then 2000 grit, also with water. This left them smooth albeit finely scratched. Followed up with a polish and the lenses came out clear.

I usually try normal polish compounds first to clean and shine up old plastic headlights. I just tried a product on 11 year old head lights , they had the classic yellow haze ford lights get when they age. "Plexus" plastic cleaner/polish its originally used in cleaning aviation plastics and plexi glass and it reconditioned the headlights to new for me. Easy to use , spray it on work it in and buff it off with cotton towel. Try this before sanding it may save time however timd's suggestion is an excellent way to fix them if there pitted and too far gone for the plastic polish to work. There you got 2 good free tips compliments of timd and me :)
