how do i figure out which year my car is. its been stripped down to the bone and painted several times. the person i bought it from was the track tech. he said he believed the body and trans were from a 86 and the engine was an 85 1.5 liter engine, carbed. no wiring. the car rear says crx in the middle but on the right rear backside of the hatch it says civic. i've only found an 88 that siad both. every 86 i've found only said crx. ques. 2, Here are my rules "Engine and body must be from the same Manufacturers. Example FORD to FORD, Engines MUST remain STOCK. NO engine modifications allowed. NO racing parts allowed. Front engine cars and trucks only. NO turbo's, NO rotary engines, NO headers, NO head milling allowed. Compression must be stock for that make and model. NO exceptions.Street Holley and Weber Carbs OK, NO racing carbs. Stock cams ONLY. Pump gas only, 100 octane MAX. WEIGHT RULE IS IN EFFECT. 1lb per cc - example - 2300cc / 2300lbs min weight including driver. Any Mini Stock that dominates or walks away may be subject to adding weight at ANYTIME per Techs discretion. this is sapposed to be the begginer class but all the lead lap drivers are experianced streetstock drivers and there cheating. one even admited it but refused to tell me how because he uses the same and wouldn't want tech knowing how they pass. I do know that they site check for valve clearance and compression only, unless a driver challanges the site inspection and pays a fee just big enough to cover the rebuild, otherwise just visual and compression. can i take an si motor and place my dx head on or would it be better to switch that cause they both came stock that year? or any other tricks to give me power while maintaining stock lift and compression

Well... First off... Check if the car had or has a moonroof (not a sunroof) Si's came with a moonroof. That narrows it to a dx or hf.
The HF came with an HF emblem while the DX came with a 1.5 emblem
I woudl swap in a Si engine. It has a better flowing head. Run a Weber 32/36 Downdraft on that engine. Use the Si manifold and plug the O2 sensor fitting with a bolt. The Si manifold flows bettter than the DX one. As for the intake manifold use a 84-87 Dx one and make a custom adapter plate to mount the weber. Then I guess its just in the weight saving. Are you allowed to run a lightened flywheel? It makes a huge diference. other than that... the crx shoudl kick ass

hey thanks for the engine info. as for the roof its solid. no emblem that i can see only crx in the rear center and also civic on the right rear. this car is stripped of all glass and interior for dirt track. but i have a roll cage. i'm looking for something else to strip 'cause i need to add wieght for distribution. and the rules dont state that i cant run that flywheel. what about an aftermarket aluminum intake manifold? are they worth it?

the aftermarket manifold is a good idea the stock one weighs a little and you cant go wrong with aluminium

I Have a few Questions for you. Is it a stick or auto trans? What gear are you running in and at what Rpm? What size track do you run on? How does it handle in detail (rear end loose or Front end push) What Tire pressures are you running? How far off the leader are you? Where do you run at?

I am building the same thing but to run on asphalt. I have an 1987 Civic 4 door. Our rules aren't as strict as yours but they won't let you dominate the field. Good Luck!

Hey Dude, do you need help or not? :disappoin Racing Season is here. My first race this season is tomorrow evening. I can't help you if you don't tell me what your car is doing. Look, It's not all about horse power, it's about how well you transfer everything to the ground. I can tell you a few legal mods that will get you around that streetstock guy even though you may be down on horses (story of my life). What I'm about to say is not bragging , I just want you to know that your not listening to a complete idiot that knows nothing about Mini's. My first year racing I drove a 1984 Chrysler LeBarron 4 door with a 2.2 rated @ 76 Horse power, that was given to me. I was racing against a former street stock guy that has seven points championships under his belt and I had never stepped foot on a dirt track. Some of the cars I was racing against were, two 98+ Dodge Neons a 88+ Honda CRX and a 80's model turbo charged Dodge Daytona (illegal, but ran anyways) among other cars. To make a long story Short, I won the points Championship that year by 700+ points.
Now if your one of these guys that just parks his car until the next race, then just forget about it. I worked my a$$ off almost every day that year wrenching, thinking, fabricating & weight reducing, But if you want get out there and embarace the crap outa this street stock guy and have the crowd on their feet all with a stock car :smokin: then get yur printer ready :naughty:
P.S. Any other guys out there that need help with Mini-stocks on dirt get a hold of me!
