i have a very simple and very ignorant question, if you'll just bare with me. i know everything about how a car works, but i got bored with that. how do i make it go! and i'm not talking like new headers, cold air, and msd, but like really put the stock numbers to shame. it just doesn't seem right that a 350 ci engine puts out 290 hp, at best! what, is it like aluminum cylinder heads and such?

~noob to the racing world.

MSD won't really increase power too much (1-3HP). It's just an ignition upgrade for a better spark which can help improve gas mileage. A more aggressive cam certainly helps. Polished and ported heads, headers (yes of course!) can really help add some power.

welcome to AF.One small 'house rule',please don't use profanities in thread titles. Can't help with the question other than to suggest you choose a better power plant next time.Ther are plenty os smaller displacement units out there that run better numbers.

This should be moved to the Camaro forums, they can help you. But if you really wnat some IN-YOUR-FACE-WITH-THE-RIGHT-FOOT-POWER then may i suggest the following mods for your LT1: This may not help though, depending on how deep your pockets are

Bore and stroker kit: 396 or 383
Blue printed and balanced
All new internals: Pistons, camshafts
Nitrous Oxide
Turbocharger
or
Supercharger
Hypertech Reprogrammer
Long Tube exhaust
Cut outs
Tubbing the rear end with a 4 link if you wanna make the most of what you got..

Or if you wanna go all out: Get the Corvette C5 crate Engine

well, everyone focuses on making power, but alot of people ignore how that power gets to the ground. youd be surprised how much faster a car can be without touching the stock engine. trans work, rear end work, suspension upgrades, tire upgrades. chassis stiffening, using fiberglass parts on the car to cut weight. after you do all that. then tear into the engine. to make more power, think of the engine as an air pump, whatever you can do to get more air in, and more air out, will make more power. look into coatings. anti friction coatings on bearings and piston skirts, and thermal coatings on the piston face, valve faces, and exhaust ports. match the engine with a good cam, good heads, and intake, a good exhaust system. tune accordingly and have fun :) but i personally dont like the LT1 for serious performance, the optispark is very unreliable. and gives up the ghost in a bad way. but hey, thats just my view. im sure plenty of people have sucess stories.
