Do these Do it yourself mods actually work?

Hey gang, I read on many websites about these two do it yourself mods and i was wondering if anyone has tried them and did they work for you guys. The mods i'm referring to are the throttle body by pass mod (link 1) and blocking the EGR and removing air pump mod (link 2). I just wanted to know if they're actually worth doing before bothering with doing them. thanks.

blocking EGR and air pump (http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/6647/ta93/egrpipes.htm)

the throttle body bipass is doable, and will theoreticly yeild gains due to lower intake charge temp. it is there for the specific purpose of heating the incomeing air for cold starting. so if you live in a very cold area, dont do it. also with the EGR deal, if you have emissions, dont do it, you will no longer pass the test. also, i would argue that there is no real loss of power with the system, and your car is designed to run with it, which makes me think that if you take it off, then it will not run as well. but as far as power, couldnt really tell ya. i would just say if you live in alaska, dont do either, and if you live in texas, then only concider the TB bypass.

Agree with 89IROC-on most cars the EGR is closed at WOT anyway.Air pumps pull minimal HP,and if you have even visual inspection of emission hardware in your area it could cause a problem. I live in Va. and visual inspection is required in my area. On some cars air pump output is monitored and will turn on the check engine lite.[EGR also].A slicker way to eliminate the air pump[if you insist on doing it] is to remove the pump, take the back off and break the fins out of it then re-install. The system looks stock but pumps no air. Also,I don't believe the temp. gauge readings in link 2 just from removing these systems. Running that cold his gas mileage is probably in the basement.

to make it even beter airpump on lt1 is electric so no worries on hp draw. I did the throttle body bypass , i didnt notice much difference cold starting. Now I dont burn my hands on the damn throttlebody anymore.

yeah this site is awesome. also camaroz28.com is good if your just lookin for camaro info , alot of experts on there. Gain from the freebie mods will only be seen on a dyno. Most people pick up like a few hp from the tb mod , BUT if you do the tb mod not only will you not burn your hands on the damn thing anymore but if you have to take off your tb you wont have to pull the coolant hoses off of it everytime and they are a PITA , it took me longer to get those bastards loose than it did to dissasemble the damn thing. Now Ill never have to mess with them again.
