Quick question about timing...

When you set both the cam and the crank shafts at TDC, the rotor in the dizzy should be pointing to the number one spark plug in the cap right?

Your crankshaft has to spin around two times to get each cylinder to fire once. One spin lets each cylinder suck in air and fuel, compress the mixture, and fire, the next spin pushes out the exhaust gases and gets ready for the next compression stroke.
So, there's one spin for compression, one spin for exhaust.
At top dead center during the compression spin, yes, your dizzy will be pointing at the number one terminal.
At top dead center of the exhaust spin (which looks exactly the same) your distributor rotor will be pointing at the terminal opposite (that's 180 degrees away) from the number one terminal.
