Front axle disconnect

Can anyone tell me how to check the front axle disconnect or if it is rebuildable? this is my first jeep so I don't know too much about them, also can I get to the windshield wiper motor by dropping the windshield?

I believe that you have to put a vacuum pump on it and make sure that it holds pressure. Make sure that you check the line going into it for leaks, because it if it isnt holding vacuum it will not engage the axle.

I replaced mine with a mechanical disconnect, so i do not have to worry about it anymore.

As far as the wiper motor I can check my manual in the garage and get back to you.

Just wondering where you got the mechanical one and how much it cost you. I would appreciate the info on the wipers, I've been looking for a book on E-bay, but I haven't found a cheap one yet. Thanks

The disconnect is called Posi-Lock; the slip yoke eliminator is also on there.

As far as the wiper motor,I forgot I will get out there tonight and look that up

Wiper motor removal

Remove both windshield hold down knobs and fold windshield forward.

Remove left access hole cover

disconnect drive link from left wiper pivot

disconnect wiper motor wire harness from switch

remove motor attaching screw and remove wiper motor

Hopefully this helps, I gotit out of the factory service manual!

It helps immensely, and I hate to bother you again, but I grabbed the vacuum lines from the axle and they were loose, so I followed them only to find that all three had been melted right in half, can you tell me where they come from? I followed them from the axle, to just after a fork in them. Thanks for the help again ffruff.

The stock lines going to the disconnect are colored (red, yellow, green and blk?). They are also wrapped in a black harness cover. If I remember correctly the vacuum harness begins at a switch located in the top of the transfer case and terminates at differant points in the engine compartment (4wd switch for dash indicator(pass side firewall), vacuum supply & 2 to the acuator in the axle).

I run the Posi-Lock on my 94YJ, and wish I had installed it the day I bought the Jeep. You will never have any problems with it, unless you get hung up on something, and the cable gets torn away. I would also recomend going to the dealer and ordering the axle shift fork up-grade. The stock fork is made out of pot aluminum, the up-graded fork will be cast steel.
