Man, I really hate to admit this, but I got my ass handed to me by a stock '98 saturn dohc. What the hell? My car pulls hard for what it is, are all saturns fast? That was one hell of a boner-breaker

1.9L DOHC SL2/SC2

124hp & 120ft/lb torque.. it should smoke your car.

the sohc saturns are dogs though, you could eat them up pretty easily

Ok, that's what I thought, the sohc's are prolly what I was thinkin about, but I didn't know that it was dohc till after the race =)

Thx for the info

yeah my girls got a 98 dohc saturn. me and her come pretty close.
sad to admit it though. all she does is put her foot on the gas then gives me that little fucking smile afterwards really pisses me off for some reason.

All I'm saying is, my car is not slow for what it is, I can beat most four cyl. I did have my girlfriend in the car, and he didn't have anyone, I don't know if that's gonna make too much of a difference, but if you guys have never straight side by side raced one then you wouldn't know, I think I'm gonna rematch him next week

Saturns are not particurally fast, but they aren't quite dogs either. I've seen some do quite well against other 4 bangers out there.

it depends on how much your girlfriend wieghs...i mean 150lbs or more would be a noticeable difference

Careful ;) heh...

Little OT but not...I've heard that a few of our Honda brethren have had the kahuna's handed to them as well by some of the newer neons!! That's just depressing...

Well that isnt any big supprise cause the new neon srt4 or whatever they are called are turbo so they are pushin a bit over 220 or 240 hp not really sure

even the stock neon is pretty quick, but yeah the srt-4 pushes over 240hp and the lesser models have 132hp or 150hp based on trim level, so they arent anything to slouch at.

Hi all Im a friend of 91civichatch2571 ( We take the same class at Alfred State)
Im saying this for your info, not out of anger

A stock 97 SC2 (DOHC) Manual runs high to mid 16's BONE stock.

So they aren't really dogs yes their are some cases where they can be slower than 16's like the autos.

But a friend of mine has a 4dr DOHC manual Saturn with JUST a intake and ran a 15 flat and swears that he has a slip for 14.9. Into the 14's on a economically geared car with JUST an intake is quick if you ask me.

I personally drive a 97 Saturn SC (SOHC) Modded. Its not quick, My ever best was 16.3. (on 2 blown motor mounts and a shot cv shaft...results of a slammed lowered car)

But im going DOHC in the Spring

Com on the whole car is made out of plastic, Gotts ta be quick... Saturns aren't really even that light, Compared to Honda Hatchs, cause Saturn has alot of reinforcments. But the car is Light for how bit they are.

Im just saying this to shed light onto the Saturn's they aren't that slow.

BTW this is MY CAR (http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/451256)

The new Neon SRT-4's have an I4, or I5 engine, which pushes 205 Hp.

The SRT-4 pushes more than 205hp stock...check out http://www.srtforums.com I am a member there also and have been checking it out for a while and hey have cars over there running a 13.9 bone stock, and also, its a 2.4 (i believe) 4 cylinder. Even the newer lesser model neons are pretty quick...not 13.9 quick, but quick enough to beat a lot of us on here...except for those who have some actual work done to their engine (swap, cam, etc).

All I'm saying is, ANY car (Civic included) with 110hp is still pretty damn slow. Heck, my car is borderline slow. Saturns are also slow... I've never lined up with one because it would just be a waste of my gas.

Um, compared to the freakin HF tranny I had in, these gears are very short. and yea your right, just about any civic with just basic mod's is slow, but I didn't think that a saturn could whip up on me usually we can take out most 4 cyl

Personally, I dont recall him bragging about anything. In fact I think he made it very obvious that he wasnt bragging and just stating a fact that his car isnt slow.Im just saying this to shed light onto the Saturn's they aren't that slow.

Shit man, I know this guy who's got a centrificully supercharged sc2 that runs 13's. There are some saturn guys out there that runs 12's and 11's too....but unfourtunately due to saturns "quality" they tend not to last too long. Just thought i'd add that....

Where are the hubcaps on the Saturn? :P

PFCfutrell

A stock twin-cam Saturn should be in the low 16's with a decent driver. I was running 15.8's in my 'rex with nothing but a ghetto intake and exhaust on the stock D16A6.

A Neon SRT-4 is powered by a 215hp (2003) or a 230hp (2004) 2.4 I4 turbo and will run anywhere from a 13.9 to a 14.2 bone stock. I don't think any other Neon's run lower than a 16 stock... maybe a high 15 with a good driver in an ACR.

crxlvr
01-17-2004, 11:26 PM
the neons always ran a 230hp I4, which is a conservative number since many tests were done where the srt-4 put down 235 to the wheels!

90civicracer
01-18-2004, 03:04 AM
Yeah dodge underrated the power numbers on the SRT-4 for '03 and many people dyno'd higher hp/tq than dodge claimed, and that is from the crank.

PFCfutrell
01-18-2004, 03:20 AM
The SRT-4 has been under-rated, in 2003 Dodge claimed 215hp at the crank and many people dyno'd around 235 at the wheels. But to say that the horsepower didn't increase for 2004 and that they simply upped their claim to more or less match actual crank horsepower is incorrect. Dodge added Stage 1 injectors to boost output of the 2004 as well as adding a limited slip differential to better cope with the added torque. The only non-performance addition for the '04 is a sunroof :)

pretty off topic now...

closing...

moral of the story:

the DOHC saturns are a decent I4 (mid-low 16's so its nothing impressive, but not dirt slow either). they get underestimated and sometimes ur gonna lose in ur civic. no biggie...someone is always faster than u...
