Putting in a 350

I currently have a 1984 305 and am going to upgrade to a 350, I was wondering what all I need to worry about replacing. And if there is any worries about ruining something because I'll have more power.

hey thanks, yea you shouldnt worry about your rear end and everything, my car came with a 2.8 and the rear is holding up fine, i have a worked 350 in it but its tearing up my 700 r-4, but i never liked the 700 r-4, i got a th-350 im puttin in this winter, if your putting in a somewhat stock 350 you dont need to worry much about all that,

I would try and Bore it out to see how far you can get, will same some money.

running gear for the smaller engines is identical to the stuff used for the 350. so they will hold up just fine. as far as the 700R4, i have never had a problem, and just had my new one built to B&M specs with a stage two shift kit and a corvette 1st-2nd servo. havnet put it in yet. but soon :) also, the 305 is externaly identical to the 350, so everything will swap right over. unless you use the 350 from a different era, you have to make sure the intake bolt holes are the same. in your case, anything before 87 will be safe.

dont get me wrong i like the 700 r-4, they got an awsome 1st gear, you jus cant really build a tough 700 r-4 that will last backing a high horsepower motor

Thats why you get a built BRF code 200-r4 that is beefedup for a turbo buick. Way stronger than a 700-r4 and takes less HP to turn. Also you getto keep overdrive :naughty: . They had the BRF 200-r4's in the Turbobuicks, and that black 454 sport truck form the early '90's

Hey good luck with it - I had a 305 in my 76 and i pulled it for a 350/th-350 combo - I needed a new fly-wheel, starter (actually I needed one because of the headers I put on), driveshaft (my 2.73 rear was fine), torque converter, and a new shift cable and carb throttle connection
Sounds easy but it isn't always
