ok...im pretty new to the whole car audio stuff but im really getting into it quickly. at a local shop, the guy is trying to sell me a pair of JL w3v2 with box for 450. i think thats pretty high and everyone is telling me on this forum that jl is way over priced. also, my dad gave me 2 6x9 alpine speakers, 2 6x6's or whatever thier called (the round ones...), 2 alpine amps, a sony reciever, and 2 10" kicker competition subs. i know that this isnt all top of the line stuff, but its not bad for free...buy anyways, the guy at the audio store keeps tellin me that the reciever wont work because its older and if i get good subs, the cd's will skip. i dont know if this is true, or if he is just trying to sell me a reciever. also, he told me that he would charge me 400 to install it all which i feel is really rediculous...after he told me this, i started to feel like this guy is trying to take advantage of me...well i am planning on getting some new subs and if i have to, a new head unit, but i dont want to have to get a new head unit if i dont have to...ohh yea, the sony head unit is a cdx-5070 if that helps...thats the only model number that i can remember off the top of my head...anything helps guys...thanks

The speakers are 6.5s. Sony Reciever won't do much for you. Alpine is good stuff. Kicker will work for most. Get a new headunit. Pioneer, Eclipse, or Alpine. Some of their newer stuff. New subs? What type amps are your alpine amps? 1,2,4 channel? how much power? What are you looking to spend on new subwoofers?
